Review Overview

Insomniac Games has already taken PlayStation 5 by storm. You have already seen that with Spider-Man: Miles Morales back in November 2020, and how great it was. Now, they have gone further by bringing Rift Apart to the fans. If there is a PlayStation Exclusive to be excited about, it would be Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Firstly, it’s because it has been five years since that last game.

Secondly and most importantly, Rift Apart is the latest instalment of an iconic franchise. With the amount of hype and coverage this game has gotten for the past year, you would expect this game to blow your mind.

How about a game that delivers adventure, comedy, lovable characters, wackiness, magi,c etc.? Look no further because Rift Apart has all of that, plus much more. Whether you are a child, teenager, or an adult, you’d agree that this game is far beyond exciting and that Insomniac Games has well and truly outdone itself with the latest instalment.

You wouldn’t necessarily know where to begin explaining how phenomenal this game is. Rift Apart feels great, so you would most likely suffer from post-game depression as you’d wish the game’s duration would at least last a little longer so that you’d enjoy it some more. On the plus side, you will get much more fun out of the game if you were to play on the hardest difficulty to get the ultimate experience from Rift Apart.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a single-player third-person shooter platform game that was developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game was released on June 11, 2021, and is exclusively available on the PlayStation 5. The story takes place after the events of 2013’s Ratchet & Clank:  Into the Nexus, as they encounter the menacing Doctor Nefarious, who caused a dimensional disintegration by accidentally destroying the ‘dimensionator’.

Ratchet & Clank both separate and end up in different dimensions. During this separation, Clank comes across a female Lombax named Rivet, with both of them looking to find Ratchet and vice versa, and all three are on a mission to stop Dr. Nefarious. Another reason why the plot is interesting because this game involves a Rift tether that allows players to warp into certain areas much quicker.

With the many things that make this game spectacular, without a doubt, the gameplay stands out more than anything else. The gameplay and the mechanics are so unbelievably fluid that it is almost impossible to get bored with the moves. Whether you are executing attacks with Ratchet’s trusted wrench, blasting enemies with a good number of weapons, or performing the interactive mechanics, Rift Apart undoubtedly delivered so much creativity with the gameplay, and that is very rare to see in modern-day gaming. Plus, the repetitive gameplay is notably minimal, so you are in for new surprises as you progress through the game.

Now, let us all remember the most important aspect of the gameplay, which, of course the Rift tether, which is beneficial in getting towards tough obstacles. You can also use this when in enemy gunfights and combat. This technique is so helpful in dodging bullets and strikes. Especially when you are playing on the hardest difficulty.

It is amazing how you can use this so many times and still be able to maintain the same level of amusement. It was a great touch for Insomniac Games to implement the 60 frames per second functionality. To be able to receive the best possible output, you should pick that performance option to get a much smoother gameplay.

The visuals are remarkably stunning. Although the game is cartoon-styled, it still presents photorealistic effects, mostly on the objects. The designs of the maps, objects, buildings, and so on were so attractive that in some parts of the story, you might be tempted to glance at them, and the colors were vibrant. All these elements are far better looking if you were to play this on a 4K monitor for a truly gorgeous effect.

The audio was also of top-level quality. The voice acting cast was all fantastic. Each actor put in stellar performances with their characters throughout the entire game to get the truest emotions out of fans, which is something that makes a game far more meaningful. When you combine comedy, drama, and romance, it shows just how versatile the cast members are, and each of them deserves much praise for delivering top-notch performances.

The harmonizing music and sound effects were special touches. If you were to buy the deluxe version, you’d be able to listen to them without having to play the game. I find it worth the extra ten dollars.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is simply the perfect game. It has everything a gamer could need in a single-player game. Great story, lovable characters, creativity, originality, exciting adventure, and so on. There are not many games like Rift Apart that you would find in modern-day gaming where you would want to complete the game over and over again. You can give it your best shot, but you will genuinely struggle to find even one fault with this game. This is without question a contender for Game of the Year.
