Sony now has a remake in the progress of the top game of 2020, The Last of Us. According to the Bloomberg report, Visual Arts Service Group has been working on The Last of Us since 2018. According to Bloomberg, the project was eventually handed over to Naughty Dog.
Michael Mumbauer’s group made an uncharted remake but the idea was canned as Sony thought it would be too expensive to make. So, the team started to work on The Last of Us Remake. The Last of Us Part 2 was in development so Sony didn’t help with enough resources to the team.
As we all remember, The Last of Us was delayed. Visual Arts Service Group started to work with Naughty Dog on the sequel. The PS5 remake of The Last of Us was handed over to Naughty Dog, as the game was finished.
Many staff left Visual Arts Service Group at the end of 2020 including Mumbauer and game director, David Hall. So the project is still is development at Naughty Dog with Visual Arts Support Group’s support.
The report also showed that Days Gone studio Sony Bend also pitched a sequel to the game. But Sony wasn’t keen on the idea. The team started to work with Uncharted. But later it was handed over to Naughty Dog. According to the report, Sony Bend is working now on its game.
