Studio Frictional Games revealed that their next project, “Amnesia: Rebirth,” is in full production and will be “horror-ish.” They also mentioned that it won’t be a horror game in Edge Magazine. In a new blog post, they shared an update on the state of its new projects and also dug deeper into why the decision to take on these projects simultaneously was necessary.

Amnesia: Rebirth , Linux, is in full production and will be horrific

They explained that they might release games more frequently, but they aren’t reliant on every project being a hit. Last year, the studio revealed that it was working on two new games. They brought us unforgettable, happy, fun times like Soma, Penumbra, and Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Their first project is in full production, but they wanted to explore some new avenues, so their development was recently sidetracked. Soma’s success was huge, and it has now sold approximately 650,000 copies. This is a very good result, but it also counts every single download of the game as a sale regardless of its price.

While working on the new stuff, it continues to generate enough revenue to keep Frictional in the black. Grip mentioned that the studio’s approach to returning to the Amnesia series is part of the Let’s Pay Phenomenon. Set in the same world as Amnesia: The Dark Descent, The Dark Descent will take players to the desolate Algerian desert as Tasi Trianon.

Players will go on a journey that will let them explore the limits of human resilience. To tease the announcement, a series of cryptic footage videos and audio files were released. The upcoming sequel to Amnesia was first announced earlier this year.

Creative Director Grip said, “Horror undertones will exist because our esthetic senses have some sort, but this isn’t the hard focus.”
