Obsession really is as great as what people are saying and it’s also breaking studio norms.
Obsession (2026) truly is one of the best horror movies in a long while, and it did this with under a $1 million budget. This is something completely unheard of as well; budget films never make a lot of money at the box office.
But as of now, we’ve had a decent amount of low-budget movies making great money at the box office. We had Iron Lung, which was self-financed by the YouTuber Markiplier, which ended up having a great box office run.
We are having a resurgence of sorts. The new Star Wars Mandalorian film got knocked off of the box office top charts by Obsession (2026), a movie that had nowhere near as much of a budget as Obsession (2026) had and was also in its third week of being in theaters while the new Star Wars film was in its first week.
Obsession is proving that people are wanting original ideas in film.
I love Star Wars, and I’m excited to see the new film, but Obsession (2026) might be the movie of the year. The film has such a simple premise, but of course, it executes its details.

Movies like this can fall apart with bad acting, bad directing, or bad editing. But Obsession (2026) had such great performances from actors and actresses that no one has really heard of.
Everyone in Obsession (2026) will go on to do all kinds of big other projects. It’s very rare we see a movie like this that doesn’t have the star power in it to do as well as it does. The word of mouth is super strong for this movie, as it seems like it keeps making more and more money. They even had a delay for the digital release of the film as it was doing so well in theaters.
This film was pretty easy to follow. Obsession (2026) is just about a guy getting a wish for his dream girl to love him. But things go south once that wish proves to be more than what he bargained for. It’s a story we've definitely heard before and seen before numerous times. But of course, this film does a great job of executing that idea and adding its own flair to it.
Obsession (2026) gets to the point, it’s under two hours, and you can’t look away from it. It has a great way of keeping your attention without it being an ADHD mess that so many movies are nowadays. It doesn’t have to explain every little thing because it’s simple and doesn’t have to give a massive war backstory to its story as well.

They decided just to have a simple premise and run with it. And with horror, that’s the best. This movie can be watched by anyone who enjoys movies in general. Even if you’re not the biggest horror fan, I think you’ll find a lot to like about this movie.
I’m hoping that this movie will spawn more original ideas for movies in theaters.
Obsession (2026) wasn’t a typical massive Hollywood blockbuster, and I’m curious to see what their reaction will be to this movie. We kind of saw this happen with The Blair Witch Project back in the day.
In that case, the creators ended up selling the rights to the movie and didn’t end up making anything else worth as much as Blair Witch, unfortunately. But the director of Obsession (2026), Curry Baker, has a bright future in front of him. He was a YouTuber that ended up making shorts and films online that were low budget but seemed to get people’s attention.
I’m sure everyone’s going to watch the movies he made before Obsession (2026), but I’m excited to see him make more films that play in theaters. We shall see how much of a budget they will give him for his next movie.

It was such a great movie all around, but I’d like to touch on something that I didn’t see many people talk about online. The music in this movie was so good. It really helped elevate a couple of scenes early on to help us identify with certain characters.
When there’s romance, the music gives us some beautiful pieces that really help you feel the beauty in the scenes. When it wants to get scary, it definitely does, but when it wants to be tender, it definitely does that as well.
In horror movies we always have the super loud jump scares and loud music popping in and out. But this time they decided to do something different and somewhat more traditional.
Obsession doesn't rely on jump scares or these big loud music cues that are pretty cheesy.
Instead, they had a very well-made score that will definitely end up inspiring other scores in films. I thought the music was definitely one of the best parts of the movie, and hopefully more people will listen closely next time they watch the movie and appreciate it.
Of course, so many people are talking about the acting in Obsession (2026), especially Inde Navarrette, who plays Nicki in the film. She has to play so many different emotions in the film. Without giving too much away, she really was able to get into some dark places and make it look believable.
Horror is sadly known for not having the best acting, especially when it comes to slop that Hollywood puts out. But Obsession (2026) is one where the acting was so good in it that I think it might get some award recognition.
Of course the Oscars and Golden Globes would never nominate a horror movie like this, but she might end up getting some attention at the SAG Awards or some other kinds of awards. I could see this movie getting nominated for the blockbuster achievement award that the Oscars have.
Obsession is definitely one of the best and most original horror movies in the last couple of years.
It is a sort of revolution in the filmmaking world, and I’m so excited to see it. With this and Backrooms playing in the theater at the same time, it feels like some sort of change in the world of movies is happening.
The only thing I can say that isn't good about Obsession (2026) are the times where there is something obivous for someone to do that would fix eveything. But they don't even think to do it until it's too late. Or a few cases in the film, don't even consider. It'd be a big spoiler for me to say what they, are so I won't.
Time will tell as to what will come next in the horror movie world and who else will be getting chances to make something unique and original. It’s time to give young people a chance to make great stories, and you don’t even really need to give them a bunch of money. At a time where it’s so expensive to go to the movies. Obsession (2026) is definitely one that’s worth going to.
