After the Hunt is a very well-acted, shot, and directed film, but its runtime hurts it, though, dragging in many parts. Many will turn off this movie early and not see the best of it, which comes later.
After the Hunt (2025) is a pretty interesting film; I found it extremely thought-provoking and extremely well-acted. The big problem is the runtime. So many people will watch After the Hunt (2025) and probably end up getting bored after the first hour. I saw that Amazon made this film, so that means more than likely it’ll hop on Prime when it’s done with its theatrical run.
So a lot of people will see it on streaming and want to watch it because people like Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield are in it. But the viewership will drop off after the first hour because it does drag a little bit in the film.
Luca Guadagnino directed After the Hunt (2025), and he’s becoming one of my favorite new directors. He’s also a workhorse, putting out a ton of movies in the last few years. I really enjoyed Challengers, which had one of the better soundtracks I had heard in recent years.
Both Luca Guadagnino (Director) and Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (composers) collaborate on all of his more recent films. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are Nine Inch Nails, which is one of my favorite bands. So the scores they have made for his last couple of films are pretty awesome.

I have to say, After the Hunt (2025) is a little bit more muted when it comes to the score they made. The movie has decent music in it, but it’s more muted and quieter. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are no strangers to making challenging scores. But this one might be one of the more forgettable ones. But I don’t think the music is a big important part in this film like it was in Challengers.
Of course, the music does play a big part in certain scenes of After the Hunt (2025), but it kind of hits a more unsettling nerve compared to a song you actually like hearing. So it executes itself in that role, but personally, for me, I definitely didn’t find it as interesting as some of the other scores they had made.
After the Hunt (2025) reminds me a lot of another movie that’s about cancel culture, so to speak. The film is a foreign film named The Hunt. The film follows a similar premise of one person’s word against another regarding a teacher sexually assaulting a student. There are some minor differences, but I do believe that the hunt was a lot better done than this movie. A lot of that is how great Mads Mikkelsen was in that movie.
After the Hunt (2025) still has some pretty awesome acting, and I’d be surprised if Julia Roberts doesn’t get nominated for any kind of awards. I do really think Andrew Garfield is incredible in this film. I wish we saw more of them, but I understand that Julia Roberts’ character was the main character in the film.

I absolutely loved Andrew Garfield when he was on screen because he had such a fun time playing this part. His character is super animated, and I could tell he had a great time discovering who he was in some of the scenes.
This is definitely a movie that an actor will appreciate more. The movie is kind of based on these performances of the characters. It falls apart without them. Which is fine; a lot of great movies have these kinds of things. But some of the scenes felt a little bit too long. They will get to this point where we were seeing stuff that we didn’t necessarily need to see.
I understand that After the Hunt (2025) is a slow burn, but at times, I felt it was a little bit too slow. And compare this to some of his previous work, like Challengers, where that movie is extremely fast-paced. As a director myself, I definitely applaud his efforts in trying to do something vastly different from one of his last movies.
The cinematography in After the Hunt (2025) definitely helps its slow demeanor. Having some great cinematography can help a scene where it’s just two people talking in an empty room. The cinematography steps up in these scenes. We get some pretty interesting POV shots when the characters are getting down to their argumentative points.

I absolutely love POV shots in films. It helps us get into the character’s eyes and understand exactly what they feel. This is definitely one of the director’s trademarks, as he did it in Challengers as well. Some of the shots will definitely stick with you because of that.
All this to say, the story, acting, directing, and cinematography in After the Hunt (2025) are all pretty good. I just wish that the movie were about 15 to 30 minutes shorter. The final act definitely was worth the wait, as some of the revelations were pretty awesome. Some of the small moments were definitely cool, but some of them could’ve definitely been shortened.
A movie like this could have also been a limited series, as this topic could’ve been explored a lot more, for sure, and wouldn’t have. It felt like it would not have dragged if it were in one-hour increments. But it does work as a feature film because it does leave you pretty intrigued and thinking about the plot.
After the Hunt (2025) doesn’t give you all the answers, it gives you just enough to decide for yourself as to what really happened. But it’s up to the viewer to gain evidence from what they’re seeing and then determine what really happened in the film. I am glad someone is still making these kinds of movies.

I’m curious to see what a lot of people think about After the Hunt (2025) online. I have a feeling that the modern audiences might not enjoy it as much because it’s definitely a throwback to the older style of filmmaking. It’s a slow-burning type of film that doesn’t rely on flashy scenes.
I believe any kind of movie can be done well in the modern or older style. But the older audience might enjoy After the Hunt (2025) a little bit more, and some of them might be due to the actors in this film being some that they grew up with. But if you’re looking for a film that has outstanding acting and the plot interests you. It’s definitely worth watching, but I might wait till it’s on Prime to do that, as many of us have Prime Video anyway.
