Review Overview

Suppose you are searching for a video game that delivers so much creativity and originality, as well as action, adventure, comedy, and so on. Or maybe, if you are looking for a game that has at least a few of those mentioned above. Then look no further.

Deathloop has finally been released, and it is a game you do not want to miss out on. This cartoonish-styled game represents what modern gaming should be, and it would be virtually impossible to dislike this game if you were to play it, which is why you must get this game. You will end up being amazed.

Deathloop is an action-adventure game with Arkane Studios being the developer and Bethesda Softworks as the publisher. Deathloop was released on September 14th, 2021, and the game is available on platforms Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 5. The setting is in the 1960s, and you start by waking up in a desert. Well, seeing as there is a time loop, every day, you will be waking up in a desert.

Deathloop epitomizes what next-gen gaming is all about. The story is truly phenomenal, has great fluid gameplay, and so on. You can tell the developers have taken a lot of time and used it very efficiently when developing this game. You play as a hitman who is on a mission to put a stop to the endless time loop that you were put in.

To achieve this, you would need to assassinate eight visionaries to escape finally. But what’s great about this time loop is that you can use it to your advantage. As each day passes by, you can learn more about your targets. At the start of the game, you get two options.

Either to break the loop by playing in the story mode as Colt. Or protect the loop by playing online as his arch-enemy Julianne. Ironically, however, you will have to choose the break-the-loop option and progress through the story before you can unlock the latter choice.

One of the greatest things about the game is that the more you learn about each of the eight visionaries you are facing, the easier it will be for you to study how they think, what their moves are, what actions they are going to take, etc., which in turn will better your chances of defeating them. The tricky part, however, is you need to kill all eight visionaries within a day to destroy the loop before the day restarts permanently.

The story is one of the best I’ve played through in a game. This is the first game I’ve played where there’s a plot like this, and surely this is the case for many of you guys, also. The originality of this storyline is off the charts.

Arkane Studios deserves massive praise for showing so much creativity with the campaign. There is no fault I could find with the story mode. Which, unfortunately, can only be said for a handful of modern games.

The gameplay is simply perfection. This is another huge element in the game that is faultless. Now, the mechanics do hugely resemble Dishonoured, which is another great game developed by Arkane Studios.

However, you can see the improvements that were implemented, and the gameplay is unbelievably fluid, so you would not feel as if there is any repetitiveness. You have an array of options for eliminating enemies. Which also includes stealth moves. Plus, the weapons are incredibly unique.

For example, a gun that uses common steel nails as bullets. As you progress, you will unlock special abilities and weapons. One part of the game, which might be seen as a minor detail, is when a certain weapon you are using jams sometimes during use. This particular feature is a nice touch as it displays some realism; however, it can be detrimental when in gunfights.

The visuals are truly breathtaking. You can tell that so much detail and precision were taken. Ironically, although the game displays a cartoonish look and vibe, you can notice so many photorealistic effects that take your breath away—the lighting on certain objects, very detailed buildings, roads, vehicles, and so on. And do not even get me started on how much better the game looks in stunning 4K resolution.

The audio is world-class. Huge credit goes to the voice actors for doing their part in delivering on their characters. Especially the voice actors of Colt and Julianne. They both produce so much charisma that you could not help but fall in love with them.

Although Julianne is your rival, her character makes you feel a range of emotions, rather than strictly anger, because you are up against her. Plus, the punchlines, one-liners, and cheesy jokes are simply a barrel of laughs.

To put it to a tee, Deathloop is simply a masterpiece. The story, characters, visuals, multiplayer, etc., are unbelievably enjoyable, and Deathloop is a gateway to the future of gaming. This should make you very excited about what’s in store.

Arkane deserves acclaim for delivering a game full of creativity and originality. Unfortunately, you can’t say that about most games, but we should cherish the ones like Deathloop, as they are rare. I highly recommend you get his game, as you will enjoy every second of it. Deathloop is most definitely a strong contender for Game of the Year.
