Him (2025) has everyone screaming to the high heavens about how terrible it is. But its story’s uniqueness isn’t that bad and is pretty refreshing.
Him (2025) is a movie that drew a lot of attention for its unique story. It’s probably one of the first movies to combine football and horror in the way that it did. Him (2025) also had Marlon Wayans playing an evil character. His lack of a comedic role in this movie made it pretty interesting, which is why a lot of people wanted to see it.
Jordan Peele was the producer, but unfortunately, the marketing team made it sound like he had a bigger hand in it. A lot of people I talk to seem to think that Jordan Peele was directing it or had written it (Him, 2025). Well, that’s not the case, as he was only the producer on it, so his role wasn’t that big in the grand scheme of things. That’s more on the marketing side than on the film itself. Him (2025) draws on Jordan Peele’s last couple of films, but horror movies have changed a lot in the last couple of years, so it’s nothing major.
Him (2025) itself takes a pretty simple concept and then turns it into something pretty fun to watch. It might not be the most thought-provoking horror movie or even that great of one, but it is pretty entertaining. Out of so many horror movies that have come out in the last couple of years, at least Him (2025) has an interesting concept. Sports horror, especially football horror, is something I’ve never seen before, or at least done like this. I had a blast watching it, even though it might not be the greatest movie ever.
Him (2025) itself isn’t too long either. It’s only an hour and a half. So many movies nowadays feel like they have to run as long as possible. A film can earn a longer run, but most of the time it doesn’t, in my opinion. This film gets right to the point, and its plot is super easy to follow.

The film follows a football prodigy being trained by one of the greatest football players ever. That’s the premise—super simple and easy to follow. But the movie takes a turn once the training becomes horrific.
Marlon Wayans’s character, Isaiah White, seems at first to be just a humble football player who just so happens to be one of the best in the world. But under the surface, there’s a lot going on, and he’s pretty freaking scary. Marlon Wayans does a great job of becoming this horrific character. I wasn’t necessarily worried about him pulling it off.
He’s a great actor beyond comedy films, as he showcased in Requiem for a Dream. I’m a massive fan of his comedy work, such as Scary Movie, White Chicks, and the television show The Wayans Brothers. In this movie, he gives one of his best performances ever in Him (2025). It’s a shame—it won’t really get any attention because it’s in a horror movie. Horror movies seem to get overlooked when it comes to awards recognition.
Julia Fox does a pretty good job as Isaiah White’s influencer wife, Elise White. I really liked her in Uncut Gems, and this role is kind of similar to what she did in that film as well. She does a good job of playing this really over-the-top influencer that we see almost every day on our phones.

The lead in the film, Tyriq Withers, plays Cam Cade. He does a pretty good job throughout the film, but sometimes I feel like he was a little one-note. He was a calm, cool, and reserved kind of guy, but it didn’t necessarily help the performance. He does a good job in the end, though, when it really counts. The ending in Him (2025) is very big in scale, and he delivers the big performance he needs.
All that to say, though, the film falls into a couple of horror clichés. So many horror movies follow the same route, and this movie seems to do the same. Someone is seeing things, and no one else believes that he’s seeing things.
The characters seem to just go along with some insane things that happen. Something horrific and crazy will happen, and some characters just go along with it without questioning it. Or something supernatural happens, and the characters go along with it instead of questioning it or being blown away by its insanity.
I think most people might be picking apart Him (2025) because of that. Once you understand the story and the characters, it is a little predictable. But I feel like almost every horror movie nowadays is super predictable, so this isn’t necessarily anything new. At least with this film, we have a unique concept, so we have a fun time seeing how it’s executed in that form.

Football is such a big thing in America. It’s integrated into our culture. So seeing how important football is to these characters and how it becomes a horrific thing is really interesting. I don’t want to give anything away, but the way they integrate into American culture and tradition, and pass it down, is super cool. I think this would definitely entertain anyone who likes horror movies, and if you like football and horror, you’ll definitely enjoy Him (2025) even more. I’m a massive football fan, so I was definitely enjoying myself in the film.
It’s kind of one of those movies where you could watch it late at night with a couple of friends and have a good time watching it, but you’re not necessarily looking for something that’s going to blow your mind. And maybe that’s what some people wanted because Jordan Peele’s movies are known for being extremely thought-provoking.
I’m not the biggest fan of his films, but I definitely agree they’re pretty thought-provoking. But where he was only a producer on the film, people shouldn’t expect it to be that much like his other movies, like Get Out. This movie is a lot different from those. It does share some things, but it’s nothing to write home about.

When it comes to horror movies, you usually watch them to be entertained. We aren’t necessarily looking for the most thought-provoking or most intelligent premise. In fact, some of the top-grossing horror movies are pretty simple. I’m not complaining —horror is my favorite —but this is definitely a notch above your average horror movie. You have a film with a pretty unique plot, combined with some really good performances.
So many horror movies nowadays have really bad acting because they’re so cheap to make, so they usually end up hiring no-name actors. This horror movie has some pretty well-known actors giving it their all. They’re all in a very unique and horrific performance, so overall Him (2025) is worth watching just for that.
