Review Overview

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle’s The Order of Giants offers an Indy-credible Roman adventure.

Finally, The Order of Giants is here. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has caught a lot of people by surprise by being an objectively amazing game. After watching some gameplay, we expected it to be good, but not that good.

In fact, it was so good that we’d consider it a Game of the Year contender. The gameplay, story, soundtrack, and effects, etc., made the experience feel like you’re in an actual Indiana Jones movie. On top of that, it was available on Xbox Game Pass. In fact, it’s still available on it, and it’s rather strange if you haven’t played this masterpiece yet.

We were devastated because we’ve completed the game in terms of main and side missions, and there’s no more to play. That’s until the latest DLC arrived, and we couldn’t be happier. That’s right, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle now comes with The Order of Giants DLC, and we’re so excited to try it out and experience more thrilling adventures.

But now that million-dollar question is, does The Order of Giants follow up from the brilliance of Bethesda Softworks’s base game? Well, due to the heightened expectations from completing The Great Circle, I expect that if the DLC weren’t better, it would at least reach the same level of greatness, which will be fine either way.

Now, keep in mind that because this is a DLC, if you had only purchased the standard edition, you’re required to pay a little extra to enjoy The Order of Giants. Yes, even if you got the base game through Xbox Game Pass, you’d still have to pay extra. The good news, however, is that the price isn’t too shabby. But remember, you’ll need to have the base game to be able to play the DLC.

If you’re confused about how actually to enter the DLC, you need to obviously make sure that you’re in the Vatican City Location. Then make sure you go to your journal and track the mission that says ‘A Mystery Begins’, and you’ll have to talk to the Priest After speaking to the Priest, you’ll then have to locate Ricci’s Casina key, sneak into the Casina, and after doing so, that’s when you’ve officially unlocked The Order of Giants campaign.

Although you’re not required to complete the base game’s story to access the DLC, it might be a good idea to complete The Great Circle’s main story first before going for the DLC’s story. Not because it’s like a continuation of the base game’s story or anything, but for you to understand the game’s mechanics, locations, level design, and so on.

If you’re still worried about the DLC’s price, then don’t. You’ll not have to worry about the DLC’s price because you get your money’s worth as The Order of Giants is a lengthy brand new quest amongst the base game’s events.

Plus, you also won’t have to worry about me spoiling the base game’s story if you haven’t played or completed it yet, because again, you don’t have to complete the main story. And for those like myself who’ve completed the main story, we will have to fast travel back to the Vatican City to begin the new exciting adventure.

The story definitely met my expectations as it was incredible from the beginning. From the very first cutscene, I was immediately hooked, addicted, and excited to see what happens next. Lead game designer Zeke Virant explains that the story takes you within the mysteries of the Nephilim Order and their history, from the inside and outside of Vatican City.

He also explains that the DLC provides many more secret areas, as well as brand new foes to encounter. However, we’ll see some familiar faces from the base game, and we should treat this DLC as a standalone title. Now, doesn’t that sound like a mouthwatering concept?

fter playing a few hours of the story, I can tell you with confidence that this DLC definitely adds to the thrills of the base game, and it definitely brings more to the table. Everything that made the base game great transcends to the DLC, and you’re guaranteed more crazy rides as you’re playing as the iconic archaeologist.

The Order of Giants’s gameplay is the same as The Great Circle, and if this is your first time playing the base game, then you should refer to the review that I’ve written on some of the gameplay mechanics for you to look forward to.

However, for puzzles, it’s different as you’re getting brand new puzzles for you to solve. For puzzles, you’re definitely getting much more challenging puzzles for you to complete. I will not lie to you, there a few are tougher than the ones in the base game, but it still wasn’t hard enough to pull my hair out. It felt much more satisfying and rewarding once I completed them.

You’re getting a set of brain teasers to fulfil your problem-solving taste buds. One puzzle I enjoyed was the Serpent puzzle, which involved a water maze. Won’t go into too much detail, but you’ll have to make sure that each maze has water flowing through it to unlock the door. It took me around 20-30 minutes to complete this puzzle, but it was fun, as well as challenging.

The Order of Giants’ location massively contributes to the greatness of the experience. Completing a set of missions in the stunning Vatican City of the early 1900s. Moreover, the all-around designs of the beautiful Roman state make for a magnificent source of exploration. Seriously, I would gallivant around places in the Vatican just so that I could view the gorgeous and artistic designs, buildings, and so on.

You’ll also like to know that The Order of Giants has a brand new system that’ll increase the difficulty of your experience, which is based on how much of the base game you’ve actually played. For example, this system’s algorithm takes into account how many puzzles you’ve solved, how many fights you’ve been in, and will modify them according to your undertaking.

This system adjusts its difficulty to suit both new and returning players. So, if you’re a new player, the DLC will make your journey much easier, but at the same time, it will impose some challenging bouts and puzzles. But for the returning players, it’ll be much more of a challenge because the DLC has figured that you can somewhat handle it, plus you’ve gained a lot of experience from the base game.

The Order of Giants epitomises what a DLC should be. An incredible gaming experience, rather than a simple cash grab. This DLC is, as they say nowadays, absolute cinema. It felt good to reprise the role of Indy and enter a brand new adventure that brings immersion to a whole new level.

The only problems I’d argue are that there are some bugs here and there, and that I still have to use my in-game journal to reveal the yellow coloured waypoint. It’s especially annoying to have to walk around with the journal open in my face. Nonetheless, The Order of Giants is a must-have.

Review Overview
4.2
Excellent 4.2
Good Stuff The experience was brilliant from start to finish, featuring enjoyable and immersive missions. All the brand-new puzzles are fun to solve. The Roman locations are stunning, and it has plenty of picture-perfect designs. The new boss fights are just as thrilling as the ones from the base game.
Bad Stuff There have been instances of bugs, which were somewhat frustrating. You still have to open your in-game journal for the waypoint to appear.
Summary
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: The Order of Giants is a demonstration of how DLCs are supposed to be made. The campaign is such a splendid experience, and it welcomes returning and brand-new players with open arms.
