Review Overview

Fans of retro top-down games are highly recommended to familiarize themselves with Uragun.

I was born at a time when arcade machines went out of fashion and went from being a ubiquitous gadget to a collector’s item to be seen either in a museum or in some private retro collection. I’ve never been a fan of the business, nor have I ever been a fan of machines or retro. But the games of the last two years have “forced” me to overcome myself and try playing games from 7-10 years ago. In the beginning, you experience withdrawal, then withdrawal turns into pleasure, and all the delights of the old games are revealed.

Uragun is a lot of fun. But the existing material was enough to keep me excited for what’s to come in the complete version of the game. Some levels are so challenging that you’ll need a lot of patience! To see how many lives and valuables I have and how much energy I have left while resurrecting. This top-down shooter is set in a dystopian future when artificial intelligence has taken over and is wreaking havoc on everything in its path. Kool2Play emphasizes smooth combat, addictive gameplay, and a well-balanced plot amongst a gorgeous landscape in Uragun’s early-access PC release.

The games in these machines are simple but exciting nonetheless. Often, an indie game reminds me of such an outlier of the past (and that’s super). Such games bring innovation and exhilarating gameplay.  I’d want to see how many talents each weapon has on the UI at this point, since the current UI seems a bit bare. It would also be nice if there were tooltips explaining what the improvements are for. A new skill slot that I didn’t have the talent for cost me five Intel at the beginning.

Uragun mess cleaning up.

Today’s game is just of that kind. It doesn’t offer any innovative ideas, but it makes you feel nostalgic for games from the past. And the name of this game is Uragun. So, Uragun. The game of a top-down genre with a dash of futuristic action shooter. The game’s basic mechanics are shooting multiple waves of enemies with various weapons. As the game progresses, the player will unlock new weapon types.

There are five types of weaponry at this point in the game, including a plasma disk, a rocket launcher, a minigun, etc. Unfortunately, most of the equipment in the game is not interactive; that is, it can not be configured. Nevertheless, the game has reasonably detailed weapon customization. To make modifications to your gun, the player needs to explore the hidden corners of each level.

As for the combat system, it is described above. Weapon customization allows the player to collect a “kit for you” – just the set of equipment that will be convenient for a particular person.

One of the levels needed to be cleared up.

The gameplay itself does not feature any variety or uniqueness. The player’s main task is cleaning up levels from waves of arriving enemies. It’s worth noting that weapons cannot be changed along the way and can only be done between big fights by adjusting your mech. Bosses also appear in the game from time to time. Their difficulty is relatively easy for me to assess, as I’m a hardcore game fan, and for me, the difficulty of Uragun is not an issue. At all.

Uragun is in Early Access, which means that the game will continue developing and extending. The number of levels and the types of foes, I am sure, will increase in the coming months, step by step.

The game is relatively simple in structure and doesn’t require any outstanding skills from the player. Uragun is the kind of game that I would classify as “a shooter for an eventide.” As a result, a pleasant project will allow you to pass your evening and add variety to your “game menu.” Especially now, at a time when the season is stingy for releases.

Mowing down the foes in Uragun is really great fun.

Great work on the art, especially in Hong Kong, where the contrast between your pictures, the wicked AI, and the scenery creates a genuinely harmonious aesthetic. The music and sound design are well-made, with some tiny hints about when I may sprint and heal.

Is Uragun worth your time? It boasts fast-paced gameplay, with each level taking just a few minutes to complete. In addition to straightforward platforming, there are confrontations with bosses and waves of enemies. An exciting perk of playing this game is the ongoing acquisition of new weapons and equipment. You can have some fun with your clueless mech not understanding what’s going on and your cheeky AI pal. You may go back and locate more resources for upgrades and improve your score by replaying. It’s pretty forgiving, with numerous lives on each level, yet it can still be as challenging as most other bullet-hell games.

If you want to prescind, to relax, then Uragun is just a necessary soul mate of yours. The game is currently priced at $15 on Steam. $15, which is more than offset by this product. And if you are a fan of retro games or the genre of “a la retro,” – your pastime will be doubly pleasant.

Review Overview
3.5
Good 3.5
Good Stuff Challenging and engaging gameplay. Good art direction. Detailed weapon customization.
Bad Stuff Gameplay gets monotonous at times. Little interactivity.
Summary
Uragun is a good game, made by canons, which should appeal to fans of retro games.
