Meta Quest 3 Update: Xbox Game Pass Support, Discord and New VR Games

Meta Quest 3 update brings height tracking, performance improvements, Game Pass support, Discord integration, and new VR games.

Meta Quest 3 has received a new 2.6 update with fixes, performance improvements, new features, Xbox Game Pass support, Discord integration, and a range of VR game announcements. The update changes the way the VR home responds to movement, adds new subscription benefits, improves Discord performance, and brings new games and updates to the platform.

Starting with the changes to the VR home, the new 2.6 update finally makes it possible for the view in VR to follow real head height. That means sitting or crouching will automatically adjust the view instead of keeping it in a fixed standing position.

There was already an experimental feature that allowed users to lie down completely, but the new option is now included from the start and works from any position.

Xbox Game Pass Comes to Meta Horizon +

This gives more flexibility when using the VR headset while sitting, crouching, or lying down. The 2.6 update also comes with several bug fixes, stability enhancements, and overall performance improvements. Thanks to these changes, games should deliver slightly more even and higher frame rates.

One of the biggest changes with the update is the inclusion of Xbox Game Pass with Meta Horizon+ on Quest headsets. Meta Horizon+ is Meta's VR subscription service that provides access to a library of more than 100 VR games, with a monthly roster that continues to add games.

Meta has announced a partnership with Microsoft that unlocks the Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition for Quest users with Meta Horizon+. This adds more than 50 non-VR games, including Fallout, DayZ, and many more, to the list of playable experiences.

The main benefit is that it does not cost anything extra. However, the Xbox Game Pass Starter version only provides 10 hours of cloud gaming each month. There is a way to work around this limitation by downloading the games directly to an Xbox console or Windows PC.

They can then be streamed to the Quest headset without the same cloud gaming limit. Even without those devices, the feature still allows Xbox games to be played on the VR headset without additional spending. Using the general Game Pass service on Quest was already possible, but this marks the first time it has been bundled with Meta Horizon+.

Discord Arrives on Meta Quest

The long-awaited Discord application has also been released for Meta Quest headsets. At launch, however, it received negative reviews because of bugs and glitches that could cause the app to crash. After the 2.6 update, many users are experiencing fewer crashes and better performance when streaming.

The developers have also made it clear that they are aware of the remaining problems and that another fix will be pushed out as soon as possible. Discord is also offering free Nitro for eligible users.

The limitation is that users who currently have Nitro or have had it in the past cannot claim the offer. A new account can still be used to receive the Nitro promotion without spending anything. The bonus is only available for a limited time, so it needs to be claimed before the offer expires.

The VR game news starts with the announcement that the open-world exploration game Star Rupture is coming to Meta Quest headsets. The game was first released in early access on Steam, where it received strong feedback from nearly 7,000 reviews. The developers, Incuvo, will be porting the game from the ground up. The studio previously worked on VR ports of Green Hell and Bulletstorm.

Legendary Tales Gets a New Update

Legendary Tales has also received a free update. The RPG dungeon crawler features combat that can be played in co-op or solo, and the latest update adds a new sandbox mode along with a friendly fire feature. The developers also revealed a roadmap for upcoming updates. Planned content includes a boss rush and a rogue-like DLC.

For players who have already spent time with the game or are considering getting into it, the new update adds more reasons to return. Forefront, the 32-player first-person shooter, has also received a new version. The game has become known for its mechanics and regular free content updates.

With version 4.0.153, players can take part in a new desert conquest map called Yova. The update also adds new weapons and mechanics, including the ability to drag fallen players across the battlefield. There are also several smaller features included in the latest patch notes, adding more changes to the overall experience.

Robo Quest VR Launches on Quest 3

Robo Quest VR has also arrived on Quest 3 from Flat2VR Studios. The studio has brought the rogue-like shooter to Meta's platform alongside a feature that enables cross-play with PlayStation VR and PC VR headsets. That means players can team up regardless of the hardware they are using, with support for 2-player cooperative missions and shared campaign progression.

The game took additional time after delays, but the studio has worked on the Quest version to make it run well on the headset. One of the main features is its cell-shaded art style, which carries over without a major reduction in visual quality. Robo Quest manages to maintain its look on the Quest display in a way that keeps it close to the experience found on its other VR versions.

Most of the time, larger PC VR games receive standalone Quest versions, so seeing a Quest game move in the other direction is less common. Starfall's success has now led to a full PC release. Its gameplay has made it feel like League of Legends in virtual reality, while the game has also gained attention for its graphics and its approach to in-game purchases.

There are no pay-to-win currencies or similar systems. Players can choose a champion and compete in the multiplayer arena. For anyone who already enjoys the MOBA format, Starfall adds another option to the VR lineup, while its upcoming PC version gives the game another platform to reach.
