What the Super Mario Galaxy Movie has in Store for Fans

Fans are buzzing as new leaks hint at unexpected characters and cosmic battles in the next Super Mario Galaxy movie.

Mamma mia, guys! The Super Mario Galaxy movie might be getting a bigger, crazier cast than we expected. Rumors have been circulating all around the “galaxy” saying that Bowser Jr. and Wario could be joining the adventure, alongside some hints about the story itself. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but these tidbits are already giving fans plenty to talk about.

If you’re trying to avoid spoilers, now is the time to look away. A Mexican theater chain called Cinépolis leaked a description that we’re going to look at. There are several interesting story tidbits in this description, like Bowser Jr. and Wario. A Twitter user translated the content, and their translation matches what supporters are seeing, which makes it a little more believable.

According to the description, the movie is set up around “new threats and old rivals in a battle that reaches the stars.” Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Yoshi team up to take on Wario and Bowser Jr. That’s already a lot to unpack, but it’s especially exciting because it confirms a few things fans have been anticipating.

First, Yoshi’s appearance is now seemingly official. We’d already suspected this from the post-credits tease of the first movie and some leaked designs, but now it looks really likely to happen. Bowser Jr.’s involvement isn’t too surprising, considering he’s connected to the original Mario Galaxy. But Wario is a complete shock. Traditionally, Wario has primarily appeared in spin-offs rather than mainline games, so seeing him show up in a cinematic adventure this early is unexpected.

It’s still a rumor, so don’t scratch your head too hard yet. We don’t know for certain if the Cinépolis description is entirely accurate. It could be a mistake, or perhaps even something AI-generated; we can’t rule that possibility out. Still, you can’t escape any rumors of a Mario movie now, can you?

Beyond just the character reveals, there are some interesting plotlines revealed, too. “New threats” implies there could be an entirely new villain or challenge, while “old rivals” could relate to Bowser, Wario, or even someone else entirely. Perhaps Mario and Luigi have a history with Wario, similar to how Spike played a role in the first movie. The battle “that reaches the stars” naturally ties into the Galaxy theme.

The leaked information claims that Yoshi, Luigi, Peach, and Mario are teaming up to fight Wario and Bowser Jr. Now that makes you wonder why Wario and Bowser Jr. are teaming up. How did Bowser Jr. even meet Wario? There’s even the possibility that Rosalina’s world is involved, given the galaxy setting, though she’s notably absent from this description. There’s talk of her being that “new threat.” That would be a wild twist.

Yoshi, Wario, and Bowser Jr. on the roster already make this movie feel star-studded, and that’s not even counting Rosalina if she is there. That’s at least three new characters, and potentially four if the rumored new threat is accurate. If this leak is real, though, it likely means Daisy won’t be making an appearance, which is a bummer.

The introduction of Wario in particular raises some fun questions about how the filmmakers will adapt his character for the big screen. He’s essentially an anti-Mario, and it’s unclear how his personality will translate visually. One theory is that Wario could function similarly to Shadow in the Sonic movies. Maybe he was even created by Bowser Jr. as part of a plan to challenge Mario. The possibilities are endless.

Bowser Jr., meanwhile, makes a bit more sense in context, but his backstory will also need to be explained. How exactly did Bowser Jr. come to life? Did he already exist during the events of the first movie, or is Bowser Jr. a new addition entirely?

The combination of these characters suggests a story that could be both expansive and chaotic, one that may ultimately take the route of a multiverse trope. With the “battle that reaches the stars,” it seems safe to expect large-scale action sequences, cosmic landscapes, and plenty of humor.

What’s particularly fun about these rumors is that they leave room for all kinds of fan theories. Could there be hidden cameos or Easter eggs referencing classic Mario games? Even small details, like how Wario’s exaggerated mouth will be animated, become points of curiosity.

It’s worth remembering that this information comes from a single theater chain in Mexico, and it’s entirely possible that some details could change or even be inaccurate. But even as a rumor, it’s enough to get the Mario community talking. The excitement comes not just from the possibility of seeing beloved characters on screen but also from imagining how all these characters blend together on the big screen.

The Super Mario Galaxy movie is shaping up to be an ambitious adventure. The next Mario film could be bigger, bolder, and better than ever. Even if some of the leaks turn out to be wrong, the buzz alone is proof that the movie is generating serious hype.

In the end, only time will tell how Wario, Bowser Jr., Yoshi, and potentially Rosalina will fit into the story. For now, we can stay busy imagining the wild ride that could await them in the next Super Mario Galaxy movie.
