RCE hackers are back, and they’re coming for PC players who are playing Call of Duty: WWII and are subscribed to Game Pass.
If you’re currently playing Call of Duty: WWII on Game Pass on PC, stop playing it right now. Especially the multiplayer mode, because that’s where you’re likely to be a victim. A few days ago, Xbox and PC Game Pass gifted us with a 2017 Call of Duty classic: WWII. It was a time for us to rekindle our nostalgia and enjoy arguably one of the most underrated titles in the franchise again. Unfortunately, this enjoyment has been drastically diminished once again due to hackers, and this time, they’re using a technique called RCE.
RCE (Remote Code Execution) involves entering another person’s hardware without their consent for various purposes, ranging from trolling to more severe actions, such as theft or destruction of their hardware. An attacker can run code or commands on your computer and take full control of your system, as if it belonged to them. These attackers can perform actions such as installing software on your system or stealing your personal data.
If you’re playing WWII on PC Game Pass and are unfortunate enough to be lined up with an attacker in a lobby, specifically if the attacker is the host of that lobby, you may experience the hack. This was first brought to attention by a Twitter user named “@Drivnn”, who’s a Call of Duty player that brought awareness of the situation by posting an image and a video of the hacks happening.

One image is a screenshot of a message on the notepad app that says “Mark E Mayer just RCEd your *** please contact Mitchell Silberberg and Knupp LLP”. The other is a short clip that provides additional evidence of the hack occurring while he was in a session. The user also stated that the hacker opened up a homosexual pornography site on his second monitor. But if you look at his comment section, he’s not the only victim. Also, other players and content creators have been victims of the RCE hack.
It appears that a less severe hacker targeted most, if not all, of the victims, and that the hackers were simply trolling and/or lacks the capabilities for more serious RCE hacks. However, just in case, it’s strongly advised that PC players either stop playing WWII’s multiplayer and possibly zombies, as playing only the campaign doesn’t seem to have any effect. Or, take the safe bet by simply uninstalling the game altogether, just in case, until Activision fixes this problem. However, Xbox players can continue to play any mode in WWII, as they’re unaffected.
It’s just a shame that we have to experience such an issue, just after getting WWII on Game Pass, and most will tell you that they’ve been having a blast with the game, hopefully, because we’ve been enjoying WWII since it arrived on Game Pass. We hope that this issue will be resolved very soon.
