CD Projekt Red is reportedly preparing new features alongside the anime's release to maintain interest in the franchise.
While the next major releases are years away, CD Projekt Red is giving fans something to be excited about with its largest series. Whether it’s new Cyberpunk 2077 updates or upcoming The Witcher projects, the studio keeps its fans engaged with new material, regular communication, and a willingness to listen to input.
The developer has announced Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 will be released alongside Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. The update should include several gameplay changes, like cyberware customization and a new dual-wield playstyle. More details are expected in an official Red Streams presentation.
As for pre-release leaks, reports have it that the update may come with the option to dual-wield handguns, a secret side objective that takes you on a tour of Nite City, five new clothing sets, and an Edgerunners-themed radio station and new hairstyles for V.
Other rumored changes include cosmetic cyberware customization, Quadra vehicle skins via Twitch Drops, field-of-view options on consoles, and built-in mod compatibility across all major platforms except Switch 2. Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Could Bring Major Gameplay Changes
Unlike the previous upgrades that concentrated on cosmetics, the upcoming Update 2.5 is said to feature improvements that might change the way players experience Cyberpunk 2077 in a fundamental way. Dual-wielding, an improved customization system, and fresh mission material may tempt gamers to try out new builds and return to Nite City.

New content for the Witcher franchise will continue to arrive through 2028.
Another big thing might be mod support. CD Projekt Red’s Witcher 3 has been pretty friendly to modding, and the addition of similar tools in Cyberpunk 2077 could go a long way to extending the game’s lifespan. They've teamed up with some incredible modders (like the guys working on the official W3 remaster), proving that the community's creativity can be part of the pros' process.
CD Projekt Red is also giving The Witcher fans a taste of what’s to come. The business has a slate of major franchise launches through 2028, including the much-anticipated The Witcher 4. It also includes mention of another Witcher publication due next year, Songs of the Past.
According to July’s production stats, The Witcher 4 has 519 personnel, plus 184 working on the next Cyberpunk game, which is usually called by the codename Orion. Development teams are also in place at other projects, notably Sirius and Hadar. Those data suggest The Witcher 4 is the studio’s primary development priority.
The next Cyberpunk game may be a few years away, but it speculates that the production of the next game may accelerate after The Witcher 4 is out. Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t have a new expansion announced, but there’s a future expansion possibility. The continued support of previous titles by CD Projekt Red is paying dividends in huge sales.
The studio’s continued effort appears to be paying off at the ticket office.
The report said that as of July 2026, Cyberpunk 2077 had sold 40 million copies and that as of September 2026, its expansion, Phantom Liberty, had sold 15 million copies. Those findings show the strength of interest in the franchise remains. Interest has been maintained through new content, technological progress, and expansions, but upcoming releases are still delayed.
The studio hasn’t been at its best. CD Projekt Red has patched the Witcher 3 remaster amid complaints over its visual presentation. The October 8 patch includes tweaks to lighting, bloom, depth of field, tone mapping, ray tracing, and path tracing for PC. The October 19 patch added visual and performance enhancements to the Switch 2 version.

CD Projekt Red’s fantastic games, free updates, and no-nonsense communication go a long way to explaining why its franchises continue to garner notice. While the studio has faced some fire over the years, the fact that it’s willing to address issues and continue to support fans gives fans reasons to remain engaged while they await the company’s next big releases.
