CD Projekt Red surprises fans with another major update for Cyberpunk 2077, teasing new quests, characters, and features—while keeping the dream of New Game Plus and Moon DLC alive.
Things took a sharp turn for the worse just as it looked like Cyberpunk 2077 had finally parked its Quadra and ridden off into the neon sunset. During the most recent CDPR Redstream, the developers confirmed that Patch 2.3 exists. It is a big new update that will be released on June 26, 2025. This news came as a bit of a surprise, especially since the studio had made it sound like Patch 2.2 was the last big update for the game.
A developer answered a fan’s question about future content with a delightfully casual, “Yes, I can tell you right now that we are planning another patch for the game.” This was the confirmation. There was one more after that. Surprise. Marcin Momot, the Global Community Director for CDPR, shared the news on Twitter with a wink and a nod, writing, “We’re not done yet”.
Read on to learn more about the next Cyberpunk 2077 update, which is coming later this month… “Let the group cook.” Along with the tweet was a funny meme of someone saying, “I got one more in me.” This was clearly a jab at the studio’s notoriously devoted fans.
Accompanying Game Director Pawel Sasko confirmed, “Yes, 2.3 for Cyberpunk 2077 is coming, and we have been cooking for you in secret for a bit…” This made things even more exciting. Lots of love, guys. Fans are really excited about that last part, “in secret,” and for good reason. It wouldn’t be the first time that CDPR made a sudden left turn, after all.

However, the studio has confirmed that there will be a livestream later this month that will go over all of Patch 2.3’s features. The patch notes have not been released yet. Until then, teases and vague clues have led to a lot of wild speculation. A promotional video that came out a few weeks ago hinted at “classified” new characters. This makes it very likely that Patch 2.3 will finally bring these mysterious people into the world of Night City.
In turn, this means that there might be new quests, side jobs, or even small story arcs that weren’t quite finished before. Patch 2.3 is not likely to add anything as big as Phantom Liberty, which was the only full-on expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. CDPR is now putting most of its efforts into Cyberpunk 2, which is in the early stages of pre-production.
That being said, the next update looks like it will include some useful new content. Think of it as an appreciation to the game’s remaining fans and a soft farewell. It’s even more interesting to think that Patch 2.3 could be used to test systems and ideas that might be used in Cyberpunk 2. That wouldn’t be the first time a game developer used the end of one game to try out ideas for the next one’s future.
There is a lot of room for new twists in the content. Cyberpunk 2077 fans have seen backend updates to the Steam version of the game, which suggests that this patch has been in the works for a while. There are a lot of ideas about what could be added, such as new vehicles and customizations, more dialogue for romances, updated cyberware, or new gang interactions in Night City’s forgotten areas.
One of the more interesting ideas going around is that consoles might support modding. It was just recently announced by CDPR that console mod support is coming to The Witcher 3. It wouldn’t be surprising if Cyberpunk 2077 got the same treatment, if not in Patch 2.3, then maybe in a later update like 2.4.
If console mods were made available, they would completely change the game for PlayStation and Xbox players, who haven’t been able to customize their Cyberpunk experience as much as PC players can. There’s still no proof, but the timing and previous statements from CDPR make it seem more likely than ever.

For all the good things Patch 2.3 might add, there’s one big thing that almost certainly won’t be there: New Game Plus. It has been said before by CDPR that the way Cyberpunk 2077 was built from the start makes it very hard to add a real NG+ mode. The game’s systems weren’t made to keep character progress between playthroughs like most RPGs are. This is especially true since the story and quest choices affect V’s cyberware and stats. The studio has acknowledged that fans are interested, but it has consistently played down the chances of NG+ happening.
Still, PC gamers have management tools to make their own mods that work like NG+. These third-party workarounds let players bring over their level data, cyberware, and weapons, but they can’t give players the same story flexibility that an official NG+ mode would. Console gamers aren’t included in this, which is a shame. The wait for NG+ has no end in sight unless Patch 2.3 adds a way to get around the problem or a surprise feature.
The Moon DLC that never happened. A long time ago, CDPR proposed an expansion that would take players beyond Earth to a huge colony on the moon with more than 60,000 people. Fans dreamed of shootouts in low gravity, lunar noir, and cyber-samurai jumping over craters. Sad to say, though, that project was quietly shelved after Phantom Liberty. Still, some fans can’t help but think that CDPR has been working behind the scenes on a shortened version of the Moon expansion that will be released as a surprise in Patch 2.3.
So, let’s be clear: that’s not likely to happen. But the fact that fans feel safe speculating again shows how much CDPR’s reputation has improved. That kind of support means a lot to a studio that had to get back on its feet after one of the worst launches in the history of modern games.

Patch 2.3 seems like a strong ending to Cyberpunk 2077’s long and winding journey so far. It might not change the rules of the game, but it shows that CDPR is determined to finish what it started. The update looks like it will be one last ride through the neon-lit alleys of Night City, whether it adds long-requested features, adds more story closure, or just makes what’s already there better.
So, put it on your calendar. It’s not just another patch day on June 26; it’s a reminder that Cyberpunk 2077, a game that was once thought to be dead, still has some cybernetic tricks up its sleeve. It looks like Night City isn’t ready to close down yet.
