Capcom unveils new story content, dungeon challenges, expanded customization, and a standalone Switch 2 release alongside major gameplay improvements.
Capcom has published fresh details about Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. The new information arrives with a major expansion that brings fresh story content, tougher gameplay mechanics, and a whole new environment for players to explore. The announcement came during a live stream, during which the development team also discussed what fans can expect from the new DLC and its debut on the Nintendo Switch 2.
The most important new aspects of the expansion were discussed in Kento Kinoshida's presentation, who directed the first Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen and was the chief game developer on Dragon's Dogma 2. Kinoshida claims the DLC is based on three key ideas: a brand-new story mode, 12 new dungeon challenges, and many more options to customize your character.
The expansion takes players to Norgon, a new freezing area where the dragon dies, and a mysterious woman is hunting it.
Players will have to go across an arctic landscape and fight fierce monsters while also gathering old artifacts and building stronger gear to get ready for harsher encounters. Norgon was "a mysterious, frigid landscape," Kinoshida wrote. He believed that relics discovered in war and exploration can be appraised before being turned into powerful weapons and armor.
Some of these items also have additional effects and powers that make character builds more interesting, on top of improved numbers. Capcom has revealed that Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen will cost $30 for those who already possess the base game. Users of the Nintendo Switch 2 can also buy the upgrade separately for $50, which includes the full base game.
“There’s a whole bunch of quality-of-life changes coming out before the expansion,” the developer also revealed. Updates are also on their way to the Nintendo Switch 2 and other devices. They’ll make the game run more smoothly, the controls more responsive, and implement other modifications based on customer feedback.

Those who have never played Capcom's open-world action RPG may be particularly interested in the Switch 2 version, which includes an upgraded base game and a new expansion.
Buy the standalone version, and you’ll have the whole base adventure plus the option to jump straight into the new Dark Arisen DLC. People have claimed that the game plays much like other current open-world action RPGs, with massive boss fights, dragons, and a vast fantasy environment. Some players could have dabbled in similar games without going all-in, but the fresh take on Dragon’s Dogma 2 could provide a better overall experience after months of improving how the game plays.
Since its launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, the game has continued to draw a strong following, even among those who didn’t purchase it right away. It's easier for folks who've been waiting to jump in with the Switch 2 version, which comes in for $50 and a much-improved base game. Capcom's Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is shaping up to be one of its biggest post-launch expansions to date. It adds a whole new area, additional personalization options, more dungeon content, and many gameplay enhancements. There’s another large RPG coming with it for Nintendo Switch 2 owners.
