FINAL FANTASY XVI is Scheduled to Be Released in the Summer of 2023, and a New Trailer Called Dominance Has Been Unveiled
Square Enix announced today that FINAL FANTASY XVI will be published globally for PlayStation 5 in the summer of 2023. At the same time, the newest video for the game, dubbed “Dominance,” words from the game’s director and producer, bios for key members of the production team, character descriptions, and images of the setting were revealed.
Game producer Naoki Yoshida said, “The new video provides gamers an even better idea of what to expect from the real gameplay of FINAL FANTASY XVI. High-octane confrontations with our protagonist Clive Rosfield, wielding a complete arsenal of attacks specific to the game’s several Eikons (summons). While you’re at it, don’t forget the epic battles amongst Eikons!”
According to director Hiroshi Takai, “this new clip provides gamers an even better look at the action-packed fighting system in FINAL FANTASY XVI. Finally, I’m pleased to report that the game is entirely playable from beginning to end. However, we’re tackling optimization and brush-up issues as we move into our last push. In the meantime, thanks for your patience and interest. Let us know if there’s anything more we can do for you!”
“They are now in the final stages of development and are polishing their work in preparation for launch under Hiroshi Takai’s guidance. We’re hoping to achieve a white-knuckle ride that rivals even the most exhilarating roller-coaster with the PlayStation 5 platform,” Yoshida said in a statement. “As a result, get hold of anything sturdy. The wait is almost over,” he added.
Developers from FINAL FANTASY XVI Online, DEVIL MAY CRY 5, The Last Remnant, and SQUARE ENIX have revealed more in the last several months. The following members of the team have shown themselves to be outstanding performers:
- Naoki Yoshida is the producer (FINAL FANTASY XIV Online, DRAGON QUEST X, DRAGON QUEST: Monster Battle Road)
- Hiroshi Takai is the main director (FINAL FANTASY V, SaGa Frontier, THE LAST REMNANT)
- Kazutoyo Maehiro was the creative director and wrote the original script (FINAL FANTASY XIV Online, FINAL FANTASY XII, THE LAST REMNANT)
- Michael-Christopher Koji Fox is in charge of localization. (FINAL FANTASY XIV Online, FINAL FANTASY XI Online, FINAL FANTASY VII Dirge of Cerberus)
- Hiroshi Minagawa was the art director. (FINAL FANTASY XIV Online, FINAL FANTASY XII, FINAL FANTASY TACTICS)
- Ryota Suzuki was the combat director for Devil May Cry 5, Dragon’s Dogma, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2, all of which were made by CAPCOM.
- Character Design – Kazuya Takahashi (FINAL FANTASY XIV Online, FINAL FANTASY XI Online, FINAL FANTASY X)
- Masayoshi Soken is the composer for FINAL FANTASY XIV Online, the Nanashi no Game series, and Mario Hoops 3-on-3, all of which are Nintendo games.
FINAL FANTASY XVI immerses players in a world where Eikons—superhuman beings endowed with the capacity to summon their terrible power—live within the Dominants, a single person. Young Clive Rosfield is the First Shield of Rosaria, entrusted with protecting his younger brother, Joshua—the Dominant of the Phoenix—from any harm. A series of unfortunate occurrences precipitated Clive’s path to vengeance.
The single-player action RPG FINAL FANTASY XVI will be released on PlayStation 5. Ratings for this title have not yet been established.
