New God of War: Laufey footage showcases the Serpent Bow, faster combat, weapon skills, customization, and enemy targeting mechanics.
Sony has revealed more information and gameplay footage for God of War: Laufey, giving fans a clearer look at the game’s combat, weapons, preorder bonuses, and more content. Preorders are out today, too, and there are a few different variants with bonus goods and cosmetic perks. The Digital Deluxe Edition has a bunch of bonuses, most of which seem to be cosmetic types and alternate armor options.
But one of the biggest highlights of the new clip is a new weapon called the Serpent Bow that looks to provide an entirely different approach to combat. The Serpent Bow is capable of transforming from its serpentine form to a regular bow, allowing the character to attack enemies from afar.
The interesting thing is the combat mechanism of accuracy, when you can attack certain parts of the opponent’s body. Precision Mode lets players zoom in and target individual parts of an enemy's body. Hitting an enemy in the leg can hinder its movement, and hitting an arm can stop it from swinging a weapon correctly.
The weapon also has two separate modes of fire. You can hold the trigger down in precision mode, which is better for accuracy, or press the trigger partway so that it can fire faster, which is faster but less accurate. The Serpent Bow is customizable with different scales, which alter the bow’s appearance and maybe some of its gameplay features.

These alternatives can allow players to devise different tactics, some favoring quick attacks, others slower but more damaging ones. The weapon also has its own unlocked skills, suggesting that weapons in God of War: Laufey could feature their own progression systems. This would give gamers more incentive to try out different weaponry and combat techniques.
God of War: Laufey’s fight seems to be somewhat shorter than in prior entries. The new footage is all about resisting speed, too. Laufey appears to feature quicker confrontations than God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök, featuring more aerial juggling, rapid attacks, and enemies thrown around in battle.

Also seen is more interplay between the various weapons. The Serpent Bow can be used with a sword, allowing players to switch between ranged and melee attacks. This might make switching weapons an important part of keeping combos going. Also interesting is the variety of enemies and supporting persons shown in the footage.
One strange gelatinous cube-like thing has even been seen battling, juggling enemies and disrupting attacks. These mechanics suggest that fighting will be a significant part of God of War: Laufey. Previous games featured a more grounded type of combat, but the new footage seems to be heading toward a faster, more aggressive style.

The faster combat could also appeal to those who enjoyed the more aggressive action of prior God of War games. Looks like Laufey is building off a modern battle base, but rather than just going back to the old paradigm, she’s adding quicker movement and more intricate enemy interactions.
The game will be out on February 16, and gamers won't have to wait long to check out the new fighting styles. The game will also be available on physical media, a move that highlights Sony’s dedication to physical copies. Preorders are now live, and Sony has released fresh footage of the Serpent Bow. Laufey gets a better look at what separates it from its predecessors.
Add in weapon customization, precise attacks, dedicated talents, aerial combos, and faster fighting, and this could be one of the more action-packed entries in the series. While Sony hasn’t detailed all of the game’s progression and combat mechanisms yet, the latest clip gives a much better sense of what to expect. God of War: Laufey is coming in February and looks to be a faster spin on the existing God of War formula.
