GTA VI Collector’s Edition Box Reportedly Spotted Ahead of Release

A rumored GTA VI promotional package reportedly includes space for Blu-ray discs, fueling speculation about a physical Collector’s Edition.

A fresh web rumor suggests Grand Theft Auto VI could get a physical Collector's Edition. Before the original uploader deleted the images, they were shared on social media, showing what seems to be a GTA VI Collector's Edition box. The images were published by a social media account for Grand Theft Auto, which included statements from a person who said they worked for Unique Services Group in Mexico.

The person apparently posted images of the purported packing and a photograph of their employment identification before deleting the posts. The box was apparently in the middle of being made and had a designated space for a Blu-ray disc, or maybe several Blu-ray discs, it is said. That, of course, has led to rumors that Rockstar may be eyeing a physical release for the digital versions of GTA VI.

However, the apparent disc slot does not assure that a real copy of GTA VI would be sent. We have seen other games' collector's editions come with a Blu-ray case that has no actual disc but has the standard spindle and internal room to hold one. A likely reason is the box was part of a promotional or publicity campaign, not a retail Collector's Edition.

The supposed Blu-ray space hasn’t confirmed a tangible GTA VI release just yet.

It's common for publishers to mail out custom-made packages to influencers, journalists, and other promotional partners ahead of big releases. The discussions around the enormous marketing campaign for Grand Theft Auto VI have already happened inside Take-Two Interactive.

Because the game is expected to be one of the most successful entertainment releases of all time, promotional packages can be employed to drive social media interest leading up to its release. If a shipment of GTA VI-themed items, collectibles, or other promotional material is sent out, multiple posts may show up online at the same time.

That would make the purported box more attractive as a marketing tool than evidence of a retail Collector’s Edition. But we can’t count out the possibility of the official Collector’s Edition entirely. Packaging with a Blu-ray compartment could point to a tangible product in the horizon, but there’s no evidence yet that it’ll be promoted alongside the game.

Rockstar may decide to reveal some editions of GTA VI closer to the release. Given the sales predictions for GTA VI, it would be no surprise to see a Collector’s Edition announced for the blockbuster game one or two months before it is released. Rockstar might still surprise fans with a Collector’s Edition reveal. For the time being, deal with the questionable package with care.

The erased social media posts and apparent ties to a production or services company make the facts interesting, but nothing definitive about a retail Collector’s Edition. If the packaging is real, then more could be revealed as Rockstar and Take-Two continue to tease Grand Theft Auto VI. Fans will have to wait for an official announcement on whether GTA VI will get a physical Collector’s Edition until then.
