Rockstar confirms GTA 6's preload schedule and massive storage requirements, while alleged packaging reveals new details about online functionality and PS5 Pro support.
Rockstar Games has officially confirmed the date fans can start preloading Grand Theft Auto 6, another major update ahead of the highly anticipated debut. But the news also brought a few interesting twists, the biggest being a purported snapshot of the game's physical box that has raised questions about its online features, storage needs, and PS5 Pro upgrades.
Rockstar said preloading of GTA 6 would start on November 10 for those who pre-ordered the game digitally. According to reports, PlayStation 5 users can download the game at midnight local time, while Xbox Series X|S users can download it at midnight GMT. This means the actual release timing will vary by platform and region.
Those who get boxed editions with download codes might have to wait a little longer.
These editions are planned to be available for shipping or pickup from November 12, but delivery timelines will vary by merchant. The preload announcement also provides a clear sense of just how much storage space users will need before installing Rockstar’s forthcoming blockbuster. The console version of GTA 6 is a big one, with Rockstar listing 212 GB of storage space available as the prerequisite.
Those with limited storage may have to uninstall several installed games before they can download the title. But an ‘alleged’ photo of the German PS5 package has revealed another figure. The picture says that GTA 6 will need at least 230 GB of storage space. That’s a big jump from Rockstar's official 212 GB requirement, although the difference could be due to installation requirements, extra updates, or pre-installed content.
Since Rockstar hasn’t confirmed the leaked packaging, players should take the extra figure with a grain of salt. The rumored packaging also mentions online capabilities and in-game purchases, but neither detail solidifies that a successor to GTA Online would launch alongside the single-player campaign. The online functionality label could simply refer to connected services, updates, leaderboards, or other elements that rely on the internet.

Notably, PlayStation’s official listing suggests that GTA 6’s campaign is playable offline.
Rockstar has released GTA Online as a standalone product before, apart from GTA 5, and may do so again. However, Rockstar has not set a formal schedule for the next online experience. The in-game purchasing label is also not surprising, given Rockstar’s existing business model with GTA Online and its Shark Cards. However, the packaging doesn't say when these purchases will be available or how they will work.
We can confirm that GTA 6 will come with a PS5 Pro Enhanced label, as shown on PlayStation’s official listing. Rockstar has not, however, announced what upgrades the upgraded console would receive. Players are especially curious whether the PS5 Pro version will let them play at 40 FPS or 60 FPS. Higher resolution, visual effects, and image quality may be possible, although none of these have been officially confirmed.
Previous previews have supposedly shown GTA 6 running at 30 FPS on consoles, including the PS5 Pro. Until Rockstar gives us an official performance breakdown, gamers should manage their expectations, as the preload nepreload could get more details as the game approaches launch.
