The colorfully pink-haired French comic book character, Maliki, is gearing up for a brand-new adventure on PC and Switch.

Ankama, a French entertainment company based in Roubaix, France, focused mostly on the creation of massively multiplayer online role-playing games while also being active in animation and web development and publishing. The same entertainment company is also known for bringing you the Wakfu and Dofus MMOs and they have proudly announced alongside developer Blue Banshee, their upcoming RPG Adventure video game.

Inspired by the comic book while also sharing the same name, Maliki: Poison of The Past will have players going on a single-player RPG adventure with the focus mainly being on turn-based combat and exploration. Maliki: Poison of The Past is the accumulation of 20 years of the comic book along with its 8 volumes selling over 300,000 copies worldwide.

The game was developed by Blue Banshee and co-created by Souillon, the author and the creator of Maliki goes on to add “Maliki has always been a transmedia universe, with the comic book, the novel, music, and animation.” Further stating that “Explore it as a video game was long overdue, it just needed the stars to align (we pushed them a bit).”

Players are being invited to take part in the adventure with Maliki and her eccentric family in the epic battle against a plant creature that has colonized space-time. Players will embark on a formidable yet fantastical odyssey through the ages, being offered a unique mix of adventurous exploration, and temporal puzzles, with turn-based combat teaming with surprises. The game is fully localized in English which allows all players to explore and experience the adventure.

The game will also house key features such as making it a quirky and engaging narrative, based on a world where a defeated humanity clashes with an invasive and vengeful natural force. The force is challenged by a colorful group of adventurers who attempt to restore the balance to the world and hopefully, saving their homes.

Players will also have access to other features such as utilizing a unique mechanic in turn-based combat called Temporal Exploration; allowing players to alter the course of time as to create more efficient and powerful combos between allies. Players will be able to shift the opponent into the past, allowing for the player to chain attack by sliding the enemy into the future for a battle of a new kind feel to it.

The game will also have a unique graphics style, bringing both the comic book art style and seasoned game creators together, Maliki: Poison of The Past will give players a dynamic yet vibrant graphic embrace while giving a fusion of French visual culture and Japanese chibi themes.

Aside from the puzzles and missions the game has to offer, players can create a refuge outside of time and chaos, a haven of peace where the players can Plant, Harvest, Tinker, cook, and take care of the Thousand Roots Tree That Holds Back Time. Players will be taken on a nostalgic journey for many readers, with over 20 years of fabulous stories, the Maliki comic will be taking it’s first steps into the world of gaming making a new entry point to easily discover it’s universe.

Either way, fans have much to look forward to and newcomers have brand-new adventures to embark on making both the experience of nostalgia and a new adventure worth a shot and a pleasant combo.
