A new Neon Genesis Evangelion series is coming soon, one not made by Hideaki Anno.
Neon Genesis Evangelion recently held its 30th anniversary program, and they ended it by announcing a new series is coming. No one saw this coming, as the series seemed to end after the rebuild movies came out. It seemed like the perfect ending for the story.
This time, the series will be written by video game creator Yoko Taro, who created NieR. He stated that the video game was inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelion. I have to say this is definitely a great choice, as he seems to understand much of the story and has a great love for it.
Many say this is probably the best possible replacement for the series.
A short trailer was shown at the 30th anniversary program, featuring a couple of shots of unit one, then the infamous piano and cello covered in grass. Does this mean the show will take place after the rebuild movies, or is it just a teaser of assorted items from the show?

It’s hard to say what timeline we’ll see, as they could also ignore the rebuilds and just go with a post-TV show or post-End of Evangelion timeline. There are a lot of options, and a complete rebuild is on the table as well, I’m sure. Having Yoko Taro will help make the new series unique.
The original Neon Genesis Evangelion TV show ran from October 1995 to March 1996. They also have multiple films, and then the rebuild movies that came out in the mid-2000s ran until 2021, when the final film came out. I really thought that was going to be it, but it seems like we are getting a new take on the classic anime that has stood the test of time.
