New Metroid Listing Hints at Two Projects in Development

A Brazilian ratings board slip may have just confirmed the next big Metroid game, and insiders swear there's even more Metroid news on the way.

If you're a Nintendo Switch 2 owner, you're going to want to sit down for this one, because the Metroid rumor mill just kicked into overdrive. A fresh wave of leaks suggests that Metroid Ravenous, a name nobody had heard before this week, could be the next major entry in the franchise, and there's reportedly a second Metroid project brewing right behind it.

Before you get into the Metroid: Dread details, it helps to remember how good Nintendo's track record has been lately. Your Switch 2 has had a genuinely strong run so far, with plenty of games you've probably already sunk hours into, and a handful of huge ones still on the way, like the Ocarina of Time remake.

A lot of what's landed on your console was leaked ahead of time and turned out to be accurate, so when a new Metroid rumor shows up, you have good reason to take it seriously. That brings you to Metroid: Ravenous. According to a report, a listing for Metroid Ravenous appeared on a Brazilian ratings board before being quietly pulled down.

The listing reportedly came from Brazil's Ministry of Justice and Public Security and pointed to a 2026 production start date in the US. The content warnings attached to Metroid: Dread included violence, weapons, blood, death, and some light sexual content, which gives you a decent hint at the tone Nintendo might be going for.

You'll also want to know where Metroid Ravenous might fit into the timeline. Some speculation links it to MercurySteam, the studio behind 2021's Metroid: Dread. This 2.5D game modernized the classic NES and SNES formula for a new generation of Switch owners.

If that connection holds up, MetroidDreads could end up being a direct follow-up to Dread rather than a totally separate spinoff.

Here's where things get even more interesting for you as a fan: Metroid: Ravenous apparently isn't the only project in the pipeline. Nintendo Life picked up comments from VGC editor-in-chief Andy Robinson, who weighed in after the Metroid Ravenous listing started making rounds online.

Robinson said he's been told that more than one Metroid-related project is currently in the works, and he framed it as good news for anyone who's been starving for new entries in the series. He didn't go into specifics, but the comment alone was enough to get people digging for what else might be coming.

As it turns out, there's already a rumor floating around that lines up with what Robinson hinted at. Back in March of 2026, a report referenced insider Nate the Hate, who claimed on a podcast that Nintendo has several major projects in development, including the new Star Fox game and the Ocarina of Time remake.

Interestingly, a leaker named Malo932 posted the same information a day before that podcast aired, and included one extra detail Nate hadn't mentioned: a remake of Super Metroid. If you're a longtime fan, you'll know Super Metroid as the 1994 SNES classic that basically defined the 2D action-adventure genre for decades afterward.

Malow932's claim suggests a remake of that game is close to being announced.

Just like with Metroid: Dread, MercurySteam is rumored to be the studio handling it, given their history with Metroid: Samus Returns. So betweenMetroid:d Ravenous and a possible Super Metroid remake, you're looking at two separate Metroid projects that both seem to be lining up with real leaks rather than just wishful thinking.

Given how often recent Switch 2 rumors have turned out to be accurate, it's fair to assume at least one of these will get an official reveal sooner rather than later. As for timing, there are two realistic windows where you might see Metroid Ravenous officially announced.

The first is the September Nintendo Direct, and if it doesn't happen there, the next logical spot would be the bigger February Direct. Realistically, within the next year, you should expect Metroid Ravenous or its companion project to get a proper reveal.

Though Nintendo has a habit of dropping surprises without warni, eitherer way, if you've been waiting on new Metroid content for your Switch 2, the wait might finally be closer to over than you think.
