SONY has announced a monitor for the PlayStation 5 and other platforms.
PlayStation 5 gets its own gaming monitor. Yes, you read that correctly. In yesterday’s State of Play Japan, it was confirmed that a gaming monitor will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5, although it can also be used with PC and Mac.
It’s a 27-inch Quad HD monitor, and the reactions towards this are almost all negative. We’ll go over why that’s the case. However, along with the announcement of the upcoming monitor, it also confirmed the specifications of the device.
- QHD IPS 2560 x 1440 Display
- HDR (High Dynamic Range)
- VRR 120 Hz max for the PS5/PS5 Pro and 240 Hz max when used by PC or Mac
- Built-in charging hook for the DualSense controller
- 2 x HDMI IN (2.1), 1 x DisplayPort In (1.4)
- 2 x USB Type_A, 1 x USB-C ports
- Stereo speaker and 3.5 mm audio output
Now, let’s get to the meat and potatoes. Although these are nice specs, there are a couple of issues people have with the PlayStation 5’s upcoming monitor. Its display is IPS. Although it isn’t a bad thing, more gamers are opting for OLED screen monitors, and they feel that getting this monitor would be a downgrade. Another reason is the price of the monitor is also the worry.

Knowing SONY, they’d probably charge similar price to OLED monitors, and this is another reason why they’re staying clear from it. If it was like around £200, then it might be a more enticing option, but again, we’re talking about SONY here.
This monitor is expected to arrive in 2026; although an exact date has not been confirmed, it is anticipated to arrive within the next calendar year. Also, keep in mind, as of now, all we know is that this monitor will only be available in the USA and Japan.
