Capcom’s new sci-fi adventure in PRAGMATA has fans going crazy, but the director sets the record straight.
PRAGMATA, set to release next year, is already in the thick of it, with fans not being able to contain their excitement. As you guys know, with great excitement comes great speculation (Don’t sue us, Marvel). From what we have seen so far, fans are drawing parallels between this new adventure and the iconic Mega Man franchise.
The speculation has even gone so far as to suggest that the game might exist in the same universe, or it could be a layup for the slam dunk that the eventual Mega Man release is going to be. The idea is that Capcom could be teasing fans with a “red herring” revival, hinting at familiar elements before surprising everyone with something bigger. And, of course, y’all did not let any Easter eggs go unnoticed. Anything that could have hinted at a Blue Bomber cameo, fans have been quick to jump on.
From all the talks that have been going on, it only made sense for Capcom to come clean and put the rumors to rest. We have word from the Capcom director himself. Speaking to VGC, he urged that PRAGMATA is an entirely new game and has no connection to Mega Man.
He mentioned that he also worked as a producer on the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection and appreciates your enthusiasm for the franchise. “It’s nice to see people being so positive about it,” he said. He also acknowledged that Mega Man fans make up their own happiness. Well, it’s not exactly what he said, but it’s what he meant. Deal with it.

Some visual cues in PRAGMATA, like the robot girl character and certain color schemes, do scream Mega Man. We don’t blame you for getting excited and reading too much into the lines, but all we ask of you is not to get too carried away. From what Capcom tells us, it just makes things crystal clear: PRAGMATA is not connected to Mega Man.
PRAGMATA was bound to be a topic of discussion, one way or the other, considering the hype for the title. For Capcom, any publicity is good publicity. Whether or not it’s connected to Mega Man, PRAGMATA is shaping up to be one of next year’s biggest releases, and that’s on period!
