Rust Celebrates Its 9th Anniversary with Quality-of-Life Update

Multiple quality-of-life improvements are coming to Rust to celebrate the game’s ninth anniversary.

It’s hard to believe that it has been over nine years since Facepunch Studio released Rust. A game that, to this day, is considered to be one of the most brutal open-world survival games of its time. As if the game wasn’t brutal enough, the update that came in September 2022 added an optional hard mode for fans who have more masochistic tendencies or just want a good challenge.

However, the latest update has gone in a very different direction. For the December 2022 update, the developers of Rust have added over 90 quality-of-life improvements to the game. This includes things such as better UI scaling, increased armored door HP, and a new “debris system” that will make gameplay fairer for raiders. Alongside this, the game will be adding a birthday cake and party hats. These will only be available for one day on 11 December 2022.

Rust has garnered a pretty consistent player base since its initial release as an Early Access title, all the way back in 2013. One of the game’s biggest appeals is its brutal gameplay. Whether struggling to survive against other players on the server or the hostile wildlife found within the game, Rust is not an easy game to play, but that is also the reason why it has attracted so many players. The full game will be released in 2018. The game will also be released on consoles, such as the Xbox One and PS4, in May 2021.

Despite its difficulty being its biggest appeal, it is also one of its biggest drawbacks, as many new players struggle to even make it through the first night. However, that may soon change. Hopefully, with all the new quality-of-life improvements coming in the December update, new players should have an easy time surviving…or not.

Rust is currently available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
