Sony Skips CES 2027, Raising Questions About When the PS6 Will Be Revealed

Sony will skip CES 2027 entirely, leaving fans wondering when the company will finally discuss its next-generation PlayStation hardware.

Sony will not be taking part in CES 2027; thus, the major technology show will not be the platform for the company to announce new goods or even perhaps talk about its next-generation PlayStation hardware. That's a significant move, as Sony has been a regular at the show with its CES press conferences for decades.

Sony and its affiliates do not plan to show anything during the January 2027 event, a report says. Sony said it regularly reviews its approach to events and communications based on the needs and goals of its different businesses. The company also said it will focus more on its entertainment businesses, such as gaming, anime, movies, and music, as well as intellectual property and creator-enabling technology.

While Sony had no presence at CES 2026, one of their related projects was present. Sony Honda Mobility had previously unveiled a concept of an electric car developed in a partnership with Honda. The joint venture then dropped plans to develop and sell electric vehicles under the Afeela project, with the companies saying the direction of their collaboration will be revisited.

Sony’s decision is even more interesting given the continued rumors over its next-gen console. There have been reports and industry conversations about new PlayStation hardware in development, with Sony and AMD exploring next-gen graphics and hardware advances, but not disclosing new PlayStation products.

However, Sony has not yet announced the PS6 or established a public release date for its next platform. The business may want to release specifics at a separate PlayStation event or via a leading technical journal rather than utilizing CES as the launch platform. Sony can talk about the next version of PlayStation at a convenient time. The timing of Grand Theft Auto VI is also something to consider.

With the game set to release in a big way in 2027, Sony might rather put its marketing efforts on current-gen hardware with the PS5 rather than jump the gun to its successor. If the PS6 were to launch in the 2027 holiday season, Sony could announce the console later in the year.

That would give the company more opportunities to display its hardware, features, and strategies outside of CES. For the moment, Sony's absence from CES 2027 is an affirmation that the company has decided not to show its items during the January event.
