A brief 30-second preview reveals Bowser Jr.’s mysterious plans, unexpected character cameos, and a city filled with nostalgic Mario history.
A brand-new teaser trailer for Nintendo’s planned Super Mario Galaxy movie dropped online this week, making people even more excited about the movie. Fans are already going through the peek frame by frame because it had so many surprises, references, and character moments for something that was only about thirty seconds long.
Stars shoot across the night sky as Mario and Princess Peach watch from the Mushroom Kingdom. It’s a calm but familiar scene that starts the video. The scene looks a lot like the beginning of Super Mario Galaxy’s Star Festival, suggesting the movie may follow key plot points from the popular 2007 game.
Soon after, viewers get another look at Bowser Jr., whose design remains true to the games, with only a few small visual changes, such as more detailed, animated eyes. He is seen with his famous paintbrush, suggesting that his creative and chaotic abilities could be a major source of tension in the movie.
Behind Bowser Jr., machines that look like they belong in a workshop and painted airships with cartoonish mouths and eyes show up. The pictures make me think of Bowser’s invading fleet from Super Mario Galaxy and the silly art that Bowser Jr. makes in Bowser’s Fury.
The trailer then shows what appears to be a partially built planet with Bowser Jr.’s signature grin. On its surface, huge structures that look like horns and a platform that looks like a throne appear, which makes it look like the young bad guy might be making his own cosmic fortress.
Each frame looks absolutely beautiful.
As the preview continues, figures from the movie start to appear quickly, one after the other. For a short time, Yoshi can be seen riding Luigi’s bike with cocky confidence, which adds some humor before the scene changes into a busy city.

Princess Peach and Toad are seen chasing a Uki, which is a naughty monkey monster that was first seen in Yoshi’s Island. The thing is holding a big bag that might belong to Toad and getting ready to use its tail to throw a Bob-omb. The chase takes place in what appears to be a futuristic city, but it’s actually a Mario-themed world.
Along with concession stands and neon signs, the streets are full of enemies, including Sledge Bros., Shy Guys, Koopa Troopas, and octopus-like animals. Peach blocks the Bob-omb with her parasol, underscoring her active, heroic role in the movie.
A lot of Easter eggs seem to be hidden in the city itself. Some of the images used to decorate buildings and shops are 8-bit enemy sprites, Super Mario Bros. 2 potion icons, and Cheep Cheep signs. These references suggest the directors are combining different periods of Mario’s life into a single movie world.
Peach and Toad finally find a way through what looks like a secret door that is hidden as an underwater level screen from the first Super Mario Bros. game. Fans think this might be a reference to the famous glitch in “Minus World,” where players could access a secret area by cutting through a wall.
Villain’s hideout is finally revealed.
Inside the secret location, which looks like a bar full of enemies, the video shows one of its most detailed scenes. While Snifits, Shy Guys, and Koopa Troopas meet around tables, Star Bunnies can be seen in the background, locked up in a cage.
People who paid attention also saw what might be Boom Boom getting ready to enter the scene. A big orange hand holding what looks like a microphone gave this away. There are more references to Mario’s past in the surroundings, such as boxes that look like cannons from Super Mario 3D World.

The video then cuts to a wide shot of the city skyline, revealing even more references. Mario Party: blocks, coin bags, Chain Chomps, and Blooper holograms are displayed on neon signs floating above rooftops. One building features a Nintendo 64 sign on top, which adds to the movie’s celebration of the series’ history.
A glowing sign that references Luigi’s Mansion hints at King Boo’s appearance. A neon ad for Roy Koopa that looks like a Mario Kart 8 sponsor image adds to the idea that the city might be based on Neo Bowser City from the Mario Kart series.
How Bowser Jr. changed and more details about the battle machine.
When Bowser Jr. shows up in a darker, flame-covered form that looks like Fury Bowser from Bowser’s Fury, the tone of the video changes a lot. His pen glows purple, which could mean strong magic or advanced technology.
Soon after, Mega Leg, the artificial boss, attacks Rosalina, but she blocks the attack with her wand. After that, there are explosions, and Bowser Jr. can be seen firing from the machine for a short time. Funny twist: Kamek is shown flying Mega Leg before Yoshi eats him and turns him into an egg while he’s still wearing his glasses. The scene has both action and the series’ trademark fun.
Later shots prove Mega Leg’s identity by showing its schematics on monitors. Some fans think that Professor E. Gadd, who is known for making strange inventions in the Luigi’s Mansion series, may have something to do with the machine because it is green and red.
If it’s true, the movie might look into how Bowser Jr. got his paintbrush, built huge machines, or even built a whole world. These kinds of links could bring together different Mario stories into a single, unified story.
One last hint from the mushroom kingdom’s past.
Along with the main trailer, people who saw the movie in theaters reportedly saw a short scene in which Baby Mario and Baby Luigi played with a dinosaur in the jungle. In a scene that reminds me of Yoshi’s Island, Toad sees the babies playing nearby, and Yoshi takes them away.
Baby Mario wakes up the dinosaur by playing the Mario theme tune on its teeth. Later, Yoshi shows up carrying something that looks like a Super Scope, which fans think may be connected to Professor E. Gadd.

It’s still not clear when the baby figures fit in, but this scene suggests the movie might feature flashbacks or different stories about Mario’s past.
The new trailer for the Super Mario Galaxy Movie is short, but it shows how much care the filmmakers have put into the movie. The preview makes it seem like the movie wants to honor decades of Nintendo history while also telling a new cosmic journey. It does this through deep cuts, returning enemies, and new takes on classic characters.
As people get more and more excited, they are already watching the movie over and over again to find more secrets hidden among the stars.
