With Drag x Drive dropping in August, speculation swirls over when Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will launch on Switch 2—September might be the new target.
A new game called Drag x Drive is set to release on August 14, 2025, adding to Nintendo’s 2025 lineup for the Nintendo Switch 2. Many people thought that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond would be the big release in August, but this new game changed those plans. As a result? There’s more and more talk that Metroid might now be aiming for a September release instead.
Don’t worry, though; Drag x Drive probably won’t be as popular as Metroid. It’s a $20 eShop-only game that’s not exactly a blockbuster, and it seems more like a fun side project than a system seller. It works strangely and has the feel of a game made by one of Nintendo’s smaller in-house teams—think indie style with first-party polish.
Still, it’s an important part of Nintendo’s plan to release something new every month. The Switch 2 release date for Pokémon Legends: Z-A is getting closer. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is set to come out on Switch 2 in the winter, most likely in November or December, and Kirby Air Riders will come out sometime in the fall.
Plus, with the newly announced Splatoon Raiders, there are still four big games with no set release dates. Because Nintendo showed off models and content for that game in a new trailer and hinted at it in the Splatoon 3 update, it will likely also come out this year.

You could say that Nintendo has confirmed more games than months left in 2025. And that’s before any surprise announcements from the next Nintendo Direct, which rumors say is coming up soon.
No matter if Drag x Drive gets you excited or not, the Switch 2 is clearly firing on all cylinders. Even the smaller games are trying new things, and if you play with friends, it might turn out to be a surprise hit.
There is still no date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, but the fall looks like it will be very busy. Now, there’s only one question: Can Nintendo land?
