New character posters, expanded plot details, and deep franchise callbacks promise a cosmic adventure unlike any previous Mario film.

There are a lot of new details about the Super Mario Galaxy movie that came out not long ago. This includes new posters of the characters, more information about the story, surprise references to video games, and even the movie’s length. The newest information shows how much the movie is based on the Mario series. It’s a space adventure with parts of Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Sunshine, and more.

You can tell right away which characters are which because they use a lot of well-known moves and places. Mario is doing his famous “galaxy spin” move on the Mario movie cover, and the blue contrail is seen spinning around him. Classic monsters like Paratroopas, a Lakitu throwing a Spiny, a Piranha Plant below him, and Spike, who shows up for the first time in the movie, are all around him.

Another Sledge Bro is in the bottom area.

This means that even more extreme cuts from the brand are being thought about. In what looks a lot like Tostarena from Super Mario Odyssey’s Sand Kingdom, Luigi’s image shifts its focus to action. As he rides his dirt bike through the field, you can see round planets in the background.

They don’t look exactly like places in the game, but the way they’re shaped makes it look like the movie is making well-known Mario worlds into spaceships. Bowser’s image has some of the most complicated ideas on it. The place where he appears is a lot like the last fight in Super Mario Bros., right down to the drawbridge falling into the lava. He looks like he’s ready to throw axes instead of hammers, which is how the 8-bit version worked.

A theme park that looks like World Bowser from Super Mario 3D World can be seen in the background. It has a big Ferris wheel and rides called Bullet Bill. The big UFO in the sky is a clear nod to the beginning of The Super Mario Galaxy, where Bowser uses a mothership to send Peach’s home into space. We know what this means: the movie could bring back that exciting capture scene, with Mario and Luigi fighting Bowser Jr. while the castle goes into orbit.

Princess Peach’s picture makes the world seem even bigger. Captain Toad shows up with his bag, light, and red handkerchief, which means he is now the treasure-hunting leader that fans know and love. Some penguins look like they did in Super Mario 64 and the first cartoon movie.

Other penguins look like they did in Super Mario Galaxy.

They now carry around big blocks of ice that they use as bags and put frozen food in. There are also figures from Super Mario Sunshine, like the Piantas, in the movie, which shows that it’s not afraid to make people miss the GameCube era. The Whittles from Super Mario Galaxy 2 can be seen, too. You haven’t seen them much since they first showed up.

There are many rocket ships in the background, which makes me think that Peach is meeting people from other worlds. A lot of Mario figures look like they’re getting together for a big fight. There are parts of this scene that make me think of Gateway Galaxy and the Terrace hub from The Super Mario Galaxy, which fits with the space idea of the movie.

Rosalina gets a picture of herself that puts her in the Comet Observatory.

Inside, the construction that connects the floating islands looks different. It looks like a web. The Grand Star’s core shines in the middle, giving the telescope power again. Rosalina’s home inside the telescope seems to be clear this time, complete with a watchtower. There are also advertising pictures of Rosalina and Peach with the words “Protect the Cosmos” next to them.

This makes it look like they will both play a big role in the story. Bowser Jr. looks like a big danger in his own image. He shows up on an airplane with a pencil in his hand, in a state of wonder. Piranha Plant material that looks like paint comes off the brush. It makes me think of both the Super Mario Sunshine pollution system and how Super Mario Bros. chaos can change.

Take a look. He made a brand-new purple and green world that has a big launcher that looks like the flying Bowser Castle from Wonder. Since the paintbrush seems to be able to do a lot more damage than before, Bowser Jr. is likely to become the main bad guy instead of a secondary danger.

In a different poster, Yoshi is shown running across the bones of a huge T-Rex while carrying Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. This is a clear nod to Super Mario Odyssey’s Flask Falls. In the movie’s structure, this supports the idea that places that used to be countries are being rethought as galaxy worlds.

The story summary says that Mario and Luigi are getting used to life in the Mushroom Kingdom when Peach’s unanswered call for help sends them into space. They meet Yoshi along the way, try to free a small Bowser that was stuck from the last movie, and get ready for Peach’s birthday party before terrible things happen.

You can expect a lot of action, emotional tension, and shocking revelations now that Rosalina and Bowser Jr. are in the show.

Fans have long thought that Peach and Rosalina might be connected, and the words “Peach’s unexplored past” make it official. Bowls Jr. in Super Mario Sunshine thinks Peach is his mother, which makes him think of another idea. If Bowser Jr. changes that part of the movie story, it could start a war that spreads across the whole galaxy.

The movie is said to be about 95 minutes long, which is a bit longer than the first one. Some fans might wonder if that time is long enough for such a big story, but how well it does will depend on how fast it moves. A lot of people from other stories come back to this one, and there are crossovers between worlds.

Special items are already showing up, which is making things even more exciting. A Yoshi popcorn bucket is said to be going to be sold at big US theater chains. Fans will be able to collect things that are linked to the movie.

From old 8-bit references to Galaxy-era action and Sunshine references, The Mario Galaxy movie seems to mix a lot of different video game eras into one big story. These movie posters and plot details make it look like the movie will be a bright, reference-filled journey with high emotional stakes, a lot of spectacle, and a lot of nostalgia.
