Sony is giving PS5 and PS5 Pro owners a flashy new way to bring Marvel's Wolverine into their gaming setup.
Sony is putting a little more Wolverine into the PlayStation 5. According to the sources, the company has announced a new collection of Wolverine-themed accessories, including limited-edition DualSense controllers and console covers for both the standard PS5 and the PS5 Pro.
The timing makes plenty of sense. With Wolverine continuing to be one of Marvel's biggest names, Sony has an obvious opportunity to turn the character into some flashy gaming hardware. This collection does exactly that, although some of the designs are definitely louder than others.
The standout for many fans could be the Wolverine Battle Yellow Limited Edition DualSense controller. Priced at $85, the controller takes inspiration from Wolverine's classic yellow costume and gives it a battle-worn appearance. The yellow sections, claw-like markings, and scuffed details make it look less like a basic branded controller and more like something Wolverine might actually have been throwing around during a fight.
Even the PlayStation button symbols fit into the design, giving the controller a nice finishing touch. There is also a Battle Yellow Limited Edition bundle featuring the PS5 Digital Edition. That package will cost $650 and includes the themed controller alongside the console.
But the controllers aren't the only new hardware arriving.
Sony is also releasing Wolverine-themed console covers, and this is where things get particularly interesting for PS5 Pro owners.
The company is offering a Battle Yellow Limited Edition cover for the standard PS5 as well as a matching version made specifically for the PS5 Pro. There is also an Adamantium Limited Edition cover for the PS5 Pro, paired with an Adamantium DualSense controller featuring a silver metallic design.
For PS5 Pro owners, the covers are arguably the most interesting part of the announcement. Official customization options for the Pro have been relatively limited, so seeing Sony finally create a themed cover is a welcome change. The Wolverine covers also have a neat little trick. The claw marks across the design aren't simply printed onto the plastic.
Parts of the slashes are transparent, allowing players to see through them to the hardware underneath. On certain models, the console's fan can even be seen spinning behind the design. And yes, Sony hasn't forgotten about people who still use physical games. The design includes an option that works with PS5 consoles equipped with a disc drive.
Not everyone may love how much Wolverine is being put on the console itself.
The large character-focused design could feel overwhelming for players who prefer a cleaner setup. A more subtle approach, such as making it look like Wolverine slashed the console and left behind his claw marks, might have been even cooler. Still, the collection accomplishes something important.
Sony is showing that it can do more with PS5 customization, particularly for the PS5 Pro. If Wolverine is just the beginning, there could be plenty of interesting designs waiting around the corner. The real question is, would you give your PS5 a Wolverine makeover, or is the Battle Yellow controller the better way to show off your mutant side?
