The sequel to 2016 throwback to PS1-era JRPGs in the form of Earthlock 2 coming to next-generation consoles.

Snowcastle Games launched the quirky RPG throwback Earthlock, which earned mixed reviews but was generally considered a solid homage to PS1-era JRPGs back in 2016. With the game bringing some rather significant changes to the table, Snowcastle has officially announced Earthlock 2 for current and next-generation consoles.

Earthlock 2 will be a completely different experience but it is set in the same world as the game. In favor of a real-time combat system, Earthlock 2 is ditching the turn-based combat from the original game. The game takes place on the planet Umbra which has stopped spinning. While the other half is completely shrouded in darkness, the other half of the world is perpetually scorched in sunlight.

As opposed to the Unity engine that was used to create the first Earthlock game, the game will also be using Unreal Engine. The Earthlock 2 trailer doesn’t show all that much. Additional details beyond that are unavailable at this time. As the game’s release date is far off, it may be quite some time before fans learn some information about Earthlock 2. Snowcastle confirms that Earthlock 2 won’t be available until 2022, so players will have to wait at least two years to play the game.

Why the developers decided to announce the game so early is also unclear. Hopefully, updates will come on a semi-frequent basis between now and the launch. Earthlock 2 will launch in 2022 for Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, PS4, and PS5.
