Here's a quick guide on how to protect your first base from mobs in Minecraft.
A peaceful Minecraft base can easily turn quite dangerous if you do not reinforce it. Whether you’re playing Survival alone or with friends, you should protect your home as your first priority. These are the best ways to keep mobs away from your base.
Light Up the Zone
Dark areas are where most hostile mobs spawn so light is your first line of defense. Place torches, lanterns, glowstone or other light sources around your base and the surrounding terrain to greatly decrease mob spawns. Good places are caves, grassy regions near your house.
Build Solid Walls and Fences
A solid wall or fence around your base will keep many mobs from wandering in. Walls should be at least 2 blocks high to prevent mobs from climbing over. Add gates for convenience and use iron doors for extra protection.

Secure your Base Entrance.
Always keep your doors locked, especially at night. Wooden doors have less security than iron doors activated by buttons, levers or pressure plates. If you’re playing on higher difficulty levels, this also stops some mobs from coming in unexpectedly.
Add Miscellaneous Defenses
As you expand your base, add defensive elements like lava moats, trenches or defensive towers. Go to a village and use a leash to bring over an Iron Golem to your base. Tamed wolves can also help fend off hostile mobs that get too close.
