Respawn to make three new Star Wars titles, including the Fallen Order Sequel.
The best Star Wars game to be released for several years was, without a doubt, Jedi Fallen Order. The game featured Cal Kestis, a former Jedi Padawan who, along his journey to find a holocron containing information about force-sensitive children, faces enemies from stormtroopers, inquisitors, all the way to the big man, Darth Vader himself. (Though it’s less of a duel and more of an “Ahhhhhhhhhh run away!” kind of situation.)
But regardless, Respawn did something incredible. So it was no surprise to hear that they were developing a sequel to the ever-successful game. However, it was revealed yesterday in a tweet by EA that not one, or two, but three Star Wars titles are currently in development at Respawn in association with Lucasfilm Games:
In a blog post, EA stated that the three Star Wars titles are as follows: A Jedi Fallen Order Sequel, an FPS, and, finally, partnering with a team at BitReactor, there will also be a Strategy game released via Respawn. That is a lot for one studio to handle, but if there’s a group of developers that could pull it off, it’s Respawn.
There is a reason that EA is announcing this now, with Lego Star Wars on its way and the Book of Boba Fett currently streaming on Disney Plus, Star Wars fever is on a high once again, so EA is no doubt taking advantage of the hype, whilst also removing the gags from developers, allowing them to… somewhat discuss their projects.
The Fallen Order Sequel, according to the tweet, will be directed by the game director of the first game, Stig Asmussen, which is promising to hear. The FPS is said to be directed by Peter Hirschmann, and all in all, we should slowly start building the hype train for the barrage of lightsabers, blasters, and weird aliens that we are about to get.
This means that with a Knights of the Old Republic remake being in development, A new Ubisoft/Massive title, the three respawn titles mentioned previously, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and finally Star Wars: Eclipse, that means we could see up to seven titles released in the next few years.
That’s an ungodly amount of Star Wars games, and fans should be salivating at the prospect of many years of what we can hope to be a bunch of incredible projects in the galaxy far, far away. The promise of more in this world comes at a crucial crossroads.
Star Wars titles only really started picking up in the last few years, after the disastrous launch of Battlefront 2. Dice recovered and actually made an incredible game in the end; meanwhile, the Jedi Fallen Order was released and proved to EA that narrative games are not ‘dead.’ Overall, the excitement for more Star Wars is palpable, and personally, I cannot wait for all of it.
If you wanna check out more cool sci-fi, Horizon Forbidden West just got a Story Trailer, and it looks so good.
