Nintendo Switch 2 Has an Incredible 2027 Game Lineup

New reports suggest Nintendo may be preparing major Switch 2 releases, including Smash Bros., 3D Mario, Star Fox, Metroid, and Luigi’s Mansion.

If a recently leaked list of speculated games is correct, Nintendo Switch 2 may be poised for a surprisingly robust 2027. Several major Nintendo properties are apparently in development, with the rumored slate featuring brand-new games rather than upgraded versions of existing Switch titles.

While Nintendo has yet to formally confirm most of these projects, the reports have created plenty of excitement, as they feature some of the company’s biggest properties. Reported Switch 2 games under development include another 3D Mario game and a new Super Smash Bros. game.

1. Super Smash Bros.

The biggest rumor is that a brand-new Super Smash Bros. for Switch 2 is in development, instead of a Switch 2 Edition of Super Smash Bros. It’s apparently being developed from the ground up as a new entry in the Ultimate range.

It's good timing, coming on the heels of Masahiro Sakurai's work on Kirby Air Riders. The next Smash game could be years away, and 2028 could be a more realistic target year than 2027. The real question, though, is whether Nintendo would replicate the Ultimate formula or reinvent the series with substantial mechanical changes.

It would be tough to re-create Ultimate’s massive roster, so Nintendo might instead focus on making the action seem deeper, heavier, and more impactful.

2. Mario Kart World DLC

Additionally, rumors suggest Nintendo is adding DLC to Mario Kart World from 2027. What is particularly noteworthy is the supposed appearance of Fox McCloud, which suggests that Nintendo may once again accept crossover characters from outside the Mario realm.

This might open the door to courses based on other Nintendo franchises, maybe even a Star Fox course set on Corneria. If Nintendo continues this path, Mario Kart World could become a huge crossover experience comparable to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Nintendo may be reviving more forgotten franchises.

3. Star Fox Adventures

Well, if the latest Nintendo leak allegations are to be believed, Star Fox Adventures could be making a surprise comeback. The new Star Fox game in development is said to be more adventure-centered, which might see the franchise return to the manner of the much-loved GameCube original.

The original Star Fox Adventures was a unique title in the franchise, combining Star Fox’s space combat with a more standard 3D action-adventure format. The gameplay was more open-ended, with players walking around planets, solving environmental puzzles, gathering skills, and moving through dungeon-like sections instead of flying through the whole game inside an Arwing.

That approach might be expanded upon in a new sequel, making use of the Switch 2’s hardware. Players might possibly fly between planets on an Arwing, before landing on and exploring enormous environments packed with enemies, puzzles, goods, and dungeons. This combo could give the franchise a much-needed new identity while keeping what made Star Fox Adventures special.

The alleged project might also be an opportunity for Nintendo to return to the more linear, progression-focused adventure style of older 3D Zelda games. The discovery of new equipment, the unlocking of areas previously inaccessible, and ultimately the battle of huge bosses might function exceptionally well within the Star Fox universe.

The game itself is totally unconfirmed at the moment; even the name is unknown. That said, a new Star Fox Adventures would be a huge return for one of Nintendo's most asked-for titles.

4. Mario 3D

A new 3D Mario game is rumored to be coming, possibly in 2027, and it may be one of the biggest Nintendo Switch 2 gen releases. Nintendo has not officially revealed the project, but yet another big 3D Mario adventure seems more plausible than ever as the company drifts further from Super Mario Odyssey.

Odyssey, released in 2017, was one of the defining games on the Switch, delivering Mario vast open-ended settings, imaginative challenges, and the distinctive Cappy mechanism. A new game would let Nintendo create new worlds and gameplay ideas while building on that foundation.

The anticipated 2027 release window also suggests Nintendo is aiming for a longer marketing effort. Rather than dropping the game at the last minute, Nintendo might unveil it early and show off the new Mario design, the game's environment, and its direction.

There is also talk that the game could be shown off during an upcoming Nintendo conference, although there's no guarantee. Instead, Nintendo may wait until 2027 to reveal it to the world.

But whenever and however the revelation happens, a new 3D Mario would be a big addition to the Switch 2 lineup. If Nintendo can tap into the ingenuity and spirit of discovery that made Odyssey so unforgettable, the next adventure might become one of the platform’s defining games.

5. Wario Land

Nintendo could potentially be working on a new Wario Land game for 2027. The series has been dormant for a while, so a new 2D action-platformer could be a welcome return. 

So a new Wario Land could be a perfect fit for Switch 2. Nintendo could stay true to the series’ 2D platforming roots, but with more levels, more complex transformations, secret collectibles, and modern visual effects. The Switch 2 may also let Nintendo build far more complex locations without sacrificing the vibrant 2D appearance that makes the series.

A potential 2027 release would also allow Nintendo a chance to put Wario Land in the same league as the big franchises, instead of a smaller experiment. Between the chat about Mario, Metroid, Star Fox, and maybe Smash Bros, bringing Wario back may broaden the slate with a more classic platforming adventure.

Most importantly, it would be an opportunity to resurrect a franchise that has been inactive for too long. If Nintendo is actually building a completely new Wario Land from the ground up, fans could finally receive the full-scale Wario platformer that’s been missing for almost two decades.

6. Metroid Ravenous

A new game might take those mechanics even further on Switch 2. Nintendo and MercurySteam could build larger locations with richer graphics while preserving the tightly planned exploration that has always distinguished the game. New skills can also open up entirely new ways to navigate the game, giving players reasons to return to previous places and find more mysteries.

Another place where Metroid Ravenous may get extremely fascinating is the story. Nintendo has not yet announced what the game will be about, so for now it's all speculation. However, another 2D adventure would give the series a chance to keep pushing Samus Aran’s story forward, and perhaps tie it into the larger events happening within the Metroid series.

The reported 2027 timetable also makes sense. Metroid Dread was released in 2021, so MercurySteam has had a few years to work on whatever comes next. If work has gone as rumored, Nintendo may choose 2027 to bring Samus back for another big 2D adventure.

For fans who adored Metroid Dread, this may be one of the more interesting titles on the alleged list. Dread proved the original 2D formula still works amazingly well today, and Metroid Ravenous could let MercurySteam take that concept even further. But until we hear from Nintendo itself, the aforementioned title, release window, and production details remain unknown.

7. Super Metroid Pixel Art Remake

The Super Metroid Pixel Art Remake could be one of the most intriguing shocks in the Nintendo rumors for the Switch 2 lineup. Originally released in 1994 for the Super Nintendo, Super Metroid remains one of the most significant Metroidvania games ever made, and a modern remake could be a massive undertaking for Nintendo.

Speculation suggests the remake would keep a pixel-art visual approach, rather than turning the classic into a fully 3D experience. That could be a great approach, letting Nintendo keep the original's feel and identity while adding far more detailed sprites, environments, animations, and effects.

Modern upgrades could be added to the gameplay without changing the core concept. Better controls, smoother movement, a better map, and quality-of-life features might make the experience more approachable without losing its exploration and growth.

There’s also rumors that the project could be coming rather soon, perhaps even alongside the reported Metroid Ravenous. If it does happen, Switch 2 might get a fresh 2D Metroid adventure and a new take on one of the franchise’s most popular games.

But for now, the remake is not confirmed. If Nintendo is indeed working on it, Metroid fans may have another big reason to be enthusiastic about the Switch 2.

8. Luigi's Mansion 4

Another big Nintendo game supposedly in production is Luigi's Mansion 4; however, we don’t know when that might come out. Luigi’s Mansion 3 was a massive hit, so a fourth game in the series seems like an obvious next step for Nintendo and developer Next Level Games.

The studio hasn’t put out a significant new project in a while now, so it’s possible it’s working on another adventure with Mario’s ghost-hunting sibling. A 2027 release, perhaps around the Halloween season, would be a fantastic fit for the franchise’s macabre backdrop.

At this time, Nintendo has not made an official announcement regarding Luigi’s Mansion 4. But if the rumors are to be believed, we may be seeing Luigi back with his Poltergust for another scary adventure on Switch 2.

For now, none of these projects are considered confirmed. Plans change, and leaks of information can be wrong. If any of this list is true, however, there’s a chance Nintendo has an extraordinarily intriguing Switch 2 lineup in store for 2027 and beyond.
