- I was really anticipating the latest installment in the scary movie series, as it brought together most of the original cast. But it was not a fun time.
- So many of the jokes in this movie are sort of one-offs, so they don’t really add anything to the story or are important to the plot.
- So many of these jokes don’t come back and are just in there so people will look at it and be like, "Oh yeah, I know that one movie or TV show they’re making fun of."
- There are so many throwaway scenes in this movie that might be some of what they were going for.
- I was really excited for this movie, and I was definitely let down.
- They failed to do what those films did so well: focus on specific movies and/or have a plot that wasn't glued together.
I was really anticipating the latest installment in the scary movie series, as it brought together most of the original cast. But it was not a fun time.
Scary Movie 6 (2026) was one of the more anticipated comedy movies of the year, as it was the first installment in the series in so long. It’s been even longer since the original cast was involved. Of course, not every single person from the original film was in it, but a pretty good majority of them were. They definitely helped the film, but I had a hard time finding it to be as memorable as the first four-second scary movie films.
What made those films so memorable is how well they parodied the movies of the time and also how consistent they were. Scary Movie 6 (2026) felt like, whenever a new trend, movie, or meme came out, they just threw it into the movie as a one-off scene.
This movie has been in production for a while, so it’s always hard to capitalize on what’s popular at the time. A good example of this is the K-pop demon hunters reference in the movie. K-pop Demon Hunters is one of the most popular movies ever on Netflix. So I wasn’t necessarily surprised to see something like that be parodied in Scary Movie 6 (2026), but it seems thrown together at the last minute.
So many of the jokes in this movie are sort of one-offs, so they don’t really add anything to the story or are important to the plot.
I hate saying things like that when it comes to how silly of a movie this is, but they definitely did that rule well in the first Scary Movie. Even in the second Scary Movie, they didn't really do that a lot.

So many of these jokes don’t come back and are just in there so people will look at it and be like, "Oh yeah, I know that one movie or TV show they’re making fun of."
Scary Movie 6 (2026) is at its best when it’s actually just sticking to the plot and letting itself breathe. I think they were worried that a lot of people would want to pay attention if it wasn’t just a gag every five seconds. It actually works better when it builds up to these jokes and also stays consistent.
While the first scary movie was a parody of just two movies, they began parodying multiple movies in each film, which kind of destroyed the purpose. There’s nothing wrong with doing that, but it’s pretty hard to execute, seeing as it’s a lot of ideas to juggle.
What they should’ve done with Scary Movie 6 (2026) is focus on one or two movies, maybe even three, and just have those be the main points of what they’re parodying in the movie. But instead, there are so many that it feels so all over the place, and, at the end of the day, it doesn’t have much of an identity at all.
Where the first Scary Movie was a parody of slasher movies, specifically I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream. With the second one, they definitely parody more than two movies, but it was a parody of haunted house movies as a whole.
Scary Movie 6 (2026) just feels all over the place, as it doesn’t really find its footing anywhere great. That’s not to say that it doesn’t have some good, funny moments, as it definitely does.
Some of that might be where movies nowadays just want to have a sort of viral clip that will go on TikTok or whatever and get people to go watch the rest of the movie.
There are so many throwaway scenes in this movie that might be some of what they were going for.
Scary Movie 6 (2026) also falls into the sad pigeonhole of movies that think they’re being clever by making fun of the modern generation, but instead just make them look out of touch. I hate saying that because I’m such a big fan of the original two Scary Movies and of a lot of the actors who worked in them.

But when I’ve seen a joke about pronouns and how an adult doesn’t understand them for the millionth time in a movie or show, you’ve just about lost me. That joke has been done to death, and it makes you look so out of touch when you do it. It doesn’t matter what side of the political spectrum you are on; seeing a joke a million times doesn’t make it any funnier.
Some of the best parts of the movie are when it’s wedging in some of the new characters and unique ideas, but those get overshadowed by the obnoxious, random cutaways that destroy any momentum the film has going for it. I think the movie will do well on streaming, and it’s already doing pretty well at the box office for a comedy.
I was really excited for this movie, and I was definitely let down.
I thought that they would try to do something fun and unique. But instead, they just threw all kinds of ideas at the wall, and not many of them stuck. This type of movie is one that you can play in the background while doing other activities.
That said, whatever streaming service Scary Movie 6 (2026) lands on is more than likely where the views will come from. A lot of people are big fans of the original scary movie, especially the original cast, and it definitely shows in how well the movie ended up doing for what it was.
I'm curious to see if they’ll make another one. This one kind of felt like a one-off just to get the original cast together since they hadn’t done that in forever. I don’t necessarily know what they would do, seeing as they basically talked about every big horror movie from the last couple of years in this movie.
They’d have to wait a couple of years to try something new, or, if a couple of big horror movies came out, they could. But this one is the sixth one in the series, so even if the original cast isn’t involved, they might just make another one just for money. That’s what they did originally when the original cast stopped appearing in every single movie after the second film.
That was the first time that Wayna's Brothers didn’t appear in one of the movies. Scary Movie three, four, and five, in my opinion, definitely got worse and worse. Those are the ones you definitely want to avoid, as they are more of a made-for-money type of movie.

Scary Movie 6 (2026) isn’t necessarily worth seeing unless you really like the first film or are a fan of some of the cast. It definitely works as they put it in the background-type movie, so if that’s what you’re looking for, I think this one is definitely OK for that. It's a movie that isn’t super serious or super long and you can just tune in and out of. But if you’re looking for something that compares to the original scary movie or even the second one, this one falls flat.
They failed to do what those films did so well: focus on specific movies and/or have a plot that wasn't glued together.
The plot is just all over the place in Scary Movie 6 (2026), and there are so many cutaway scenes that don’t really add anything to the movie and aren’t funny on their own either. It would be one thing if they were super funny but didn’t add anything to the movie, as then they would at least have that working for them. But instead, it’s a double whammy, and they don’t serve much of a purpose in the movie.
It’s hard for comedians to find a way to stay funny after decades of being in the business. I still think that the Wayans brothers are very funny, and some of the movies they’ve made in the last few years are pretty good. I might even check out another scary movie if they make it, and maybe they could learn from some of the flaws in Scary Movie 6 (2026).
