The X-40 Nightmare is one of the aircraft worth saving up for if you're working your way through the Aircraft Tree in Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve. You won't be able to grab it at the start of the campaign, though. You'll need to finish the story first, then work toward unlocking it with MRP.

Finish the Campaign First

The X-40 Nightmare only appears on the Aircraft Tree after you complete Mission 30 and finish the campaign. If you've been checking the tree throughout your playthrough and can't find it, don't worry about it yet. You'll need to clear the story before it becomes available.

Unlock a Required Aircraft

Finishing the campaign isn't the only requirement. You also need to own at least one of the F-22A Raptor, F-35C Lightning II, or Su-57 Felon before you can purchase the X-40 Nightmare. You only need one of them, so there's no reason to buy all three just to unlock the X-40. Pick the one that fits your Aircraft Tree progression and budget.

Save Up 1,000,000 MRP

Once the X-40 is available and you've met the aircraft requirement, you'll need 1,000,000 MRP to buy it. That's a hefty price, especially if you've already spent a lot on other jets and upgrade parts.

I'd avoid spending MRP on every new aircraft you unlock if the X-40 is your main goal. Keep progressing through the tree toward one of the required jets, then save what you can for the final purchase. Remember that the million MRP is just the X-40's own price; you'll also have to pay for the aircraft needed to reach it.
