It’s not right all the time with the Golden Globes nominations, but this year, they definitely got a couple of things right.
The Golden Globes were announced on December 8, and they will take place on January 11 next year. Like last year, I’m kind of excited to see what happens. Last year, I was really excited to see what Anora would do, and it ended up doing pretty well in awards season. This year might be one of the better years as far as Golden Globe nominations go. I actually liked a lot of the films nominated.
One Battle After Another, one of my favorite films of the year, received a ton of nominations at the Golden Globes. Leonardo DiCaprio, Benedict Del Toro, and Sean Penn all got nominations for their acting. Penn, in my opinion, should absolutely win for his role in One Battle after Another.
I was also excited to see that Andor received a Golden Globe nomination. The TV market was pretty fierce this past year, but Adnor definitely made a mark in the TV and streaming world. Andor is one of my favorite TV shows ever, and that’s saying a lot. This is the first time someone in a Star Wars film or TV show has been nominated for a Golden Globe since the original Star Wars in the 70s.
After The Hunt also received a Golden Globe nomination, with Julia Roberts nominated for best actress. I think she was incredible in the film, and I’m a little bummed that Andrew Garfield didn’t get a nomination for supporting actor.
I was surprised to see The Rock end up getting his Golden Globe nomination for The Smashing Machine. But he definitely is good in the film; it will be interesting to see what would happen if you were to win. And we also got nominated for her performance in The Smashing Machine, and she definitely was incredible in it.
I think I was most pleased that Frankenstein received as many nominations as it did. I think Frankenstein is definitely one of the best films of the year and probably one of the best adaptations of the classic story. I was so happy to see something horror-related get nominated for multiple awards.
The same goes for the film Sinners, which got a couple of nominations as well. This will definitely be a turning point for horror movies in terms of award consideration this year, as the Golden Globes have shown.
