The 2026 Oscars were announced on January 22, and Sinners leads the pack with 16 nominations.
The 2026 Oscars are promising to be an interesting one. I’m glad to see Sinners get so many nominations. With 16, it breaks the record for the most nominations a single film has had at the Oscars. Not only is this incredible for an original film, but I am also glad to see a horror film do this.
The Oscars, and many award shows in general, often disregard horror films, treating them as less important than other films. But a lot of great performances come out of horror films, such as Michael B. Jordan.
Jordan’s and Sinners, so I’m hoping that the film also gets a lot of wins as well.
One Battle After Another, they also got a bunch of nominations, which was to be expected, as they did the same at just about every other award show. I was very excited to see Train Dreams get a bunch of nominations as well, as I believe that’s the best film of the year.
It’s a hard sell to win all the awards with the competition so fierce, but it might take home the best cinematography award. The cinematography in Train Dreams was absolutely brilliant, and I really hope it wins for that. Train Dreams is the best way to look at America in the early 1900’s since Red Dead Redemption II.

I was surprised to see Train Dreams get as many nominations as it did, but it’s also a great film in terms of technical achievement, and the Oscars have more technical nominations than the Golden Globes. That’s one thing I do find interesting about the Oscars: all the technical awards they have, and I’m glad they have them, as those are parts of films that do not get their due credit.
Sinners leads the pack, but we’ll see if it can pull off the record for the most wins a film can get at the Oscars as well. It definitely deserves a bunch of wins since its original concept is refreshing and incredible.
