Kratos heads towards Egypt? Here’s what you need to know.
So, you’re playing the next God of War, and it lands you in Egypt! Does that sound cool? You have barely scratched the tip of the iceberg. The sun burns down in ancient Egypt, and in the middle of it all stands Kratos. He’s older and still terrifying. But, instead of the Blades of Chaos or the Leviathan Axe, in his grip is something clearly Egyptian.
One thing God of War is known for is its weapons. The Blades of Chaos showed Kratos’s rage and tragic past. The Leviathan Axe symbolized his bond to a new life. Each chapter of the saga has tied Kratos’ weapons to the world around him, and now Egypt could deliver the next weapon to steal our hearts.
Tom Henderson hinted on a podcast that the next mainline God of War could feature an Egyptian sword as Kratos’ weapon of choice. He didn’t get too deep into the details, but compared it to the kind of blade you might see in Prince of Persia. We could see something like a curved scimitar or a khopesh, a sickle-shaped sword that remains one of the most recognizable weapons of ancient Egypt.

Egypt has been teased before in the Norse entries, whether in dialogue or concept art. Henderson has previously reported that Santa Monica Studio is seriously considering Egyptian mythology as the next big stage for Kratos’ journey. At this point, given how much we have been hearing of the next God of War, it feels less like an average rumor and more like the jigsaw falling into place.
Hold on to your horses, though; the next entry in the series might not be the Egyptian epic just yet. Before we get there, Santa Monica could drop a spin-off in 2026 that will focus on Atreus. It will be an ancient Greek side-scrolling Metroidvania. It would keep the franchise alive while we wait for Santa Monica to cook up the main course.
The real excitement is building around the thought of Kratos storming through Egypt. The idea just feels right. And if it plays out the way we think, nothing can stop God of War from becoming the “God of Gaming” once again.
