From Gears of War and Fable to Persona 6 and Spyro, Microsoft’s latest showcase delivered big announcements, surprise returns and a look at the road ahead.
If there was one thing that Microsoft wanted players to take away from its newest XBOX Games Showcase, it was simple. A lot is coming. The show included a full slate of game announcements, release dates, franchise revivals, and even a new special-edition console. Microsoft spent more than an hour putting together a strong roster that extends well into 2027 with a little bit of everything for just about every kind of gamer.
The presentation wasted little time in getting to one of its major draws. First up was Gears of War: E-Day, which opened the event with a lengthy gameplay demonstration that finally gave fans a closer look at the series’ return. Set during the fateful Emergence Day, you play as a younger Marcus Fenix as humanity is first faced with the danger of the Locust.
The footage really dug into what makes Gears so Gears: harsh fighting, furious firefights, and dramatic action. The game was one of the most talked-about moments from the presentation, thanks to dynamic cover animations, hyper-reactive settings, and the reintroduction of the series’ signature chainsaw kills. Microsoft has stated that Gears of War: E-Day will be an XBOX console exclusive launching on October 6th, 2026.
And Fable was back soon. Fans may have been expecting a more in-depth look at gameplay, but the new footage does offer a closer look at the world and style of the fantasy RPG. More importantly, Microsoft finally announced a release date. The much-awaited reincarnation will be available on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation 5 and will launch on February 23.
There was also something for Halo enthusiasts to look forward to. New missions, cinematics, and story content for Halo: Combat Evolved. The upgrade is meant to bring back the old adventure and offer fresh experiences for both longstanding fans and new players. It opens July 28th.

The showcase rolled on at a quick pace with a steady stream of announcements.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is out August 27, with Persona 4 Revival launching February 18, 2027. The sources add that a dedicated presentation for Persona 4 Revival is also scheduled for June 18, and fans can look forward to a deeper look at the remake and its new features.
State of Decay 3 also made a return with another look at its zombie-infested environment. The latest footage was focused on bigger threats and more aggressive undead confrontations, with the game presently due for release in 2027.
Meanwhile, Sea of Thieves stunned many fans with one of the more inventive disclosures of the episode. The impending update isn’t only about new adventures but about unleashing powerful creation tools that will allow players to build personalized experiences, design cinematic scenes, and experiment with brand-new game modes.
The pattern started to take shape as the lecture proceeded. Some games were revealed as XBOX exclusives, while others would come to PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and PC alongside XBOX. The dual-platform approach made Microsoft’s publishing strategy more flexible and sparked a lot of discussion among fans.
Several fresh ventures also got attention. Metro 2039 was a great game with evocative visuals and precise lighting effects. Magicians: The Devil’s Deal was notable for its strange mix of first-person action and magical combat. Before its October debut, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse was highly lauded for its eye-catching graphical style and smooth animation.

And then there was a surge of nostalgia.
Crazy Taxi World Tour has finally returned Sega’s classic arcade racing, bringing back the breakneck-paced mayhem that made the original games so memorable. Spyro: A Realm Beyond came soon after, offering fans their first peek at the dragon's future adventure. Sources say the upcoming game is meant to be the biggest Spyro title yet, with a bigger focus on large-scale exploration and aerial gameplay.
Microsoft even found a place for some new gear. To celebrate 25 years of XBOX history, the firm unveiled a translucent green XBOX 25th Anniversary Edition Series X system. Separate matching controllers will also be sold when the hardware releases in November 2026.
The exhibition finally concluded with several well-known names. Clockwork Revolution had another big gameplay reveal, showing off its time-manipulation capabilities and steampunk-inspired universe. Microsoft then closed the show with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which includes a new DMZ-centric experience ahead of its October debut.
Overall, the exhibition felt like a statement of intent. The tech giant unveiled one of its most packed gaming lineups in years, with everything from big exclusives to multiplatform titles, long-awaited sequels and surprise comebacks. That's it for now on the announcements but there are so many games coming out in the next two years, which will be the greatest winner of the showcase?
