Outbound: How to Build a Base on Your Vehicle

Here's how to unlock and build on top of your vehicle in Outbound.

Building on top of the vehicle in Outbound starts at the Fire Lookout, one of the early main objectives shown on the map. Just north of it sits the Treehut landmark, where the terminal for the building blueprint is found.

Unlocking the Terminal

Three items need to be found before the terminal inside the Treehut will unlock - a Signal Decryptor, a Password Databank, and a Terminal Executable. These are scattered across shelves and tables within the same building, so no extra exploring is needed beyond the immediate area.

With all three items in hand, interacting with the terminal starts the download. A Download Voucher is also required here, the same as with any other signal tower in Outbound.

Crafting the Deck

Back at the vehicle, the Base Building Deck becomes available under the vehicle upgrades tab at the workbench. Crafting it costs wood and scrap metal, using the same crafting process as any other item.

Once built, a hatch appears in the roof along with a ladder leading up to the new deck space.

Building on the Deck

The deck starts as a bare platform, so heading into the build menu under base building unlocks floors and walls to properly enclose it. From here, a small room can be pieced together on top of the vehicle in Outbound, with counters and workstations placed once enough structure is in place.

Packing Up and Moving

When it's time to move on, the built structure automatically deconstructs and stores itself compactly on the roof. Setting up camp again afterward brings everything back exactly where it was left, making it possible to keep expanding the build in Outbound without losing progress between stops.
