Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts : How to Unlock Every New Skin

Here's how to unlock all 18 new skins in Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts.

Hallowed Concepts adds a new skin for 18 survivors in Risk of Rain 2, and each one comes from a challenge. The challenges fall into three groups, and this guide covers all three without naming the secret boss.

You must complete the challenge as the survivor whose skin you want. A win as Commando doesn't unlock Mercenary's skin, for example.

Which Survivors Need Which Challenge

Commando, Huntress, Acrid, Seeker, Chef, and Enforcer unlock their skins by clearing the Soulbound Threshold before the fourth stage's teleporter event.

Bandit, Engineer, Artificer, REX, Captain, and Acolyte unlock theirs by defeating what lies beyond the door in the Soulbound Threshold.

MUL-T, Mercenary, Loader, Railgunner, Void Fiend, and False Son unlock theirs by finishing a run while holding at least 10 Hexes.

Clear the Soulbound Threshold Before Stage Four in Risk of Rain 2

Start your Risk of Rain 2 run with the N'tormat and at least one page. A Wake event or a Trial gives you both, and Wake events are rare.

For a Trial, go to the Bazaar Between Time and jump down the pit. Find the gong on the ledge and hit it to open a portal and start the Trial. Complete it to receive the N'tormat and a page.

With the N'tormat in hand, the Shrine of Descent spawns on every stage. Use the one on stage two or three so you finish before the fourth teleporter. Activate it, complete the teleporter event, and defeat the extra boss that follows.

Take the portal to the Soulbound Threshold, climb the ramps, and interact with the console in the middle. Defeat each wave of bosses, then the final boss. Return to your run, and the skin unlocks.

This is a boss rush, so enter with a build that can clear it. The same run also unlocks Acolyte.

Defeat What Lies Beyond the Door

The route to the Soulbound Threshold is the same as above, but this challenge has no stage-four deadline. That gives you time to improve your build, which matters because this fight is harder than the standard boss rush in Risk of Rain 2.

You also need a specific N'tormat page, Reincarnation. Trials give pages, and so do the objectives of Shrines of Compulsion.

Clear the boss rush and its final boss as usual. After that, walk toward the console in the middle and watch for a chat message that says you can proceed. Use the Reincarnation page to open the giant door behind the exit portal. Walk through, cross the water, and defeat the secret boss to unlock the skin.

Finish a Hallowed Concepts Run With 10 Hexes

Hexes are harmful items that make a Risk of Rain 2 run harder. Each one's description names its penalty. For example, Hex of Acceleration makes all ground slippery.

You can hold more than 10, but you need at least 10 when the run ends. A Hex shows up in chat when you pick it up, and repeats stack.

How to Get Hexes in Risk of Rain 2

Concept Reliquaries are interactables that look like small grasping hands, and they reward you with Hexes. Use a Sale Star on one to raise the amount.

The other source is the Hallowed Shrine. After a teleporter event, find it and choose Embrace Death to receive three Hexes. A Hallowed Shrine can also cleanse a Hex, so skip that option while you collect them. It reportedly spawns after every teleporter, and it appears more often once you hold the N'tormat.

With 10 or more Hexes, finish the run any way you like: beat Mithrix and escape, loop and obliterate, or loop and dive into a DLC ending.

What to Do Next

Start with the stage-four group, since clearing the Soulbound Threshold also unlocks Acolyte. You need Acolyte before you can earn Acolyte's skin from the door challenge. Then work through the door challenge for the other survivors, and fit the Hex run in whenever you like.
