Here's a quick guide on spending Undying Embers and Undying Starlight in Honkai: Star Rail.
Undying Embers and Undying Starlight are a special currency that you can earn by performing Warps in Honkai: Star Rail. Embers are mainly obtained by getting three-star Light Cones, while Starlight is obtained through higher-rarity Light Cones and duplicate characters. Each currency is available to be used in the respective Exchange Shops for Passes, characters, Light Cones and other resources.
Select Passes with Undying Embers
In general, Undying Embers should be used on the monthly Star Rail Pass and Star Rail Special Pass first. These Passes are released in small quantities each month and are one of the most efficient purchases you can make in the shop. The Special Pass can be used on limited character and Light Cone banners making it particularly useful.
Keep Some Embers For The Reset
Embers Exchange is updated regularly. Don’t spend all your Embers on low-value materials before buying the monthly Passes. It's a good habit to check the shop at the beginning of each month and buy the Passes you need immediately. If you have enough currency left over, you can look at other materials to purchase.

Use Undying Starlight More Cautiously
Undying Starlight is much rarer, and therefore worth a lot more than Embers. You can buy Star Rail Special Passes, characters, and five-star Light Cones at the Starlight Exchange. Special Passes are the most secure long-term choice for most players, especially free-to-play players, as they go directly toward limited banner pulls.
When to Get a 5-Star Light Cone
The five-star Light Cones you can get from the Starlight Exchange are tempting, but it costs a lot of Starlight to buy one. Buy one only if you really need that Light Cone and have enough Starlight to spare. Newer accounts can often get more value out of multiple Special Passes to help you get new limited characters.
Neither Currency Goes to Waste
Don’t impulsively spend Undying Embers or Starlight on basic EXP materials, Credits, or common upgrade items, unless you urgently need them. These resources can be acquired through normal gameplay, but Embers and Starlight are far harder to replace. The reserve also allows you flexibility when a character or banner you really want becomes available.

The Best Ways to Spend
For Embers, go for the monthly Star Rail Passes and Special Passes first, limited materials if you have to. Special Passes are generally the best option if you’re interested in collecting limited characters for Starlight, or when you need to get a five-star Light Cone in particular, which can be worth it. If you think of both these currencies as valuables for the long term, not something to spend immediately, you can get a lot more out of each Warp you do.
