Here's a quick guide on how elemental effects work in Neverness to Everness.
Neverness to Everness’ elemental system revolves around the Esper Cycle, a combat mechanic that allows switching between compatible characters, rather than simply matching elemental weaknesses. Each character is one of six Esper types, and combining the right ones creates powerful reactions that boost your team's damage and utility. Learning how these basic effects work is one of the biggest steps to building stronger teams and reaching difficult content.
The Six Kinds of Esper
One of these Esper elements is assigned to each character:
- Lakshana
- Cosmos
- Anima
- Incantation
- Chaos
- Psyche
Unlike many action RPGs, not everything interacts with everything else. Instead, the six elements are arranged in a circular Esper Cycle, and only adjacent elements can cause reactions. You will not get elemental reaction if you switch between non-adjacent elements on the wheel.

How to Trigger Elemental Effects
While fighting, each character fills an Esper Meter by attacking, using Skills, dodging and other combat actions. When the meter is full, switching to another compatible character activates a Support Skill and triggers an elemental reaction if the two characters have adjacent Esper types. This encourages frequent character swapping instead of staying on one damage dealer the whole fight.
All Responses to Duo
There are six main elemental reactions in the game:
- Remora (Lakshana + Cosmos) Reduces enemy move speed and attack speed, making fights much safer.
- Blossom (Cosmos + Anima) Summons a turret that lasts for 10 seconds and attacks nearby enemies.
- Hexed (Anima + Incantation): extra damage based on recent attacks, great for after big combos.
- Scorch (Incantation + Chaos) - Deals damage over time that gradually drains the enemy’s health.
- Nova (Chaos + Psyche): Applies an explosive effect to enemies that will detonate after a short delay for burst damage.
- Stain (Psyche + Lakshana): Makes the target more vulnerable to Psyche and Lakshana damage, increasing your team's overall damage output.
Trio Reactions
You can also chain two compatible Duo Reactions (from the same side of the Esper Cycle) to trigger more powerful reactions.
The two Trio Reactions are:
- Charge: Activates the top half of the Esper Cycle, which provides benefits like increased Ultimate Energy generation.
- Discord: Activated in the bottom part of the cycle, this focuses on Break damage and helps stagger tougher enemies more quickly.
These advanced reactions become more and more important during tough boss fights and endgame content.

Teams Building for Responses
Characters aren't just hurting themselves. Many also have passive skills that enhance some elemental reactions for the whole party. This means that two characters with bonuses to the same reaction can make it much more effective.
Rather than choosing characters solely based on their rarity, try to assemble teams that can consistently set off the same reaction chain. Good elemental synergy often does better than just using 4 powerful characters with unrelated elements.
