Here's how to find Ruby in Stardew Valley.
Ruby in Stardew Valley comes mostly from nodes deep in The Mines, though a few other sources exist. This guide covers which floors to mine, what a Ruby node looks like, the other places Ruby turns up, and how to get more out of each run.
Mine From Floor 80 Down in Stardew Valley
The Mines hold Ruby nodes from floor 80 on, so floors above that aren't worth the trip. Once you reach the bottom of the Mines, Ruby nodes can appear on any floor.

Floors 81 to 89 are listed as a good spot, where Rubies, Emeralds, and Fire Quartz are common. Each floor generates at random, so a given floor may have several nodes or none.
Spot a Ruby Node
A Ruby node looks like a stone with small red gems set into it. Break it with your Pickaxe, and it drops a Ruby.
Some floors also hold red-tinted rocks, so look for the red gems set into the stone itself.

Other Places to Get Ruby in Stardew Valley
You can also pan for Ruby in rivers, which reportedly gives a 1% chance, and fishing treasure chests can contain it. Both depend on luck, so mining stays the most reliable route.
Ruby nodes also show up in the Skull Cavern and the Volcano Dungeon, if you've reached them.

Make Your Ruby Runs Count in Stardew Valley
Break the crates and barrels on floors 80 and deeper in Stardew Valley, because they can drop Ruby too. They take a swing each and add to what the nodes give you.
If a floor shows no stones with red gems, head down to the next. There's no way to improve the odds on a given floor, so cover more floors instead.

What to Do Next
Get to floor 80 and work your way down, checking each floor for stones with red gems. Break crates and barrels as you go. If you've already reached the Skull Cavern or the Volcano Dungeon, mine there too. Keep your Stardew Valley runs short and move on whenever a floor has none.
In Stardew Valley, Ruby comes mainly from nodes on floor 80 and deeper in The Mines, so look for stones with red gems and break the crates and barrels on the way.

Q. How do I spot a Ruby node in Stardew Valley?

Q. Can you get Ruby without mining?
A. Panning in rivers gives a small chance, reportedly 1%, and fishing treasure chests can contain one as well. Mining is still more dependable.
