Here's a quick guide on how the echo system works in Wuthering Waves.
The Echo system is one of the key progression mechanics in Wuthering Waves. Echoes provide powerful stat bonuses and unique abilities and Sonata Effects to enhance your Resonator’s performance. Knowing how they work will help you build better teams and push through endgame content more effectively.
What is an Echo?
Echoes are items obtained by defeating Tacet Discords across Solaris-3. Each Resonator has slots for up to five Echoes, and each Echo adds stats and passive bonuses. Your main Echo also has an active skill that you can use in combat to add extra damage, utility or crowd control.
Echo Cost System
Each Echo has a Cost value and your total equipped Cost cannot exceed 12. The most common setup is 4-3-3-1-1, which lets you add one powerful boss Echo, and a balanced selection of other Echoes.
- Cost 4: Usually boss Echoes with powerful active powers.
- Cost 3: Elite enemies often drop good offensive stats.
- Cost 1: Common enemies to finish your build.
This layout gives most characters the best balance of stats and active skills.

Effects of Sonata
The echoes are from different Sonata sets. Multiple Echoes from the same set provide powerful bonuses.
Most sets include:
- 2-Piece Bonus: +% to a specific stat (such as Elemental Damage or Attack)
- 5-Piece Bonus: increased potency for certain elements/playstyles.
If possible, try to stick with a 5-piece Sonata set that fits your Resonator.
Main Stats and Substats
Every Echo has one main stat and some substats.
Look out for:
- Critical Rate
- Critical Damage
- Attack Percentage
- Energy Regeneration
- Elemental Damage Bonus (to eligible Echoes)
Defensive stats aren't as useful, unless they help directly with your character abilities.
Echoes Upgrade
Level up your Echoes with Echo EXP materials. As they level up, you are able to unlock additional substats with the help of Tuners. Later in the game, upgrade materials become scarce, so don't get too hung up on low-quality Echoes early.

Farming Better Connects
Raise your Data Bank level to unlock the rarest Echo drops. Target elite enemies, world bosses and Tacet Fields for Echoes if you have the right Sonata set and good stats.
Last Tips:
- Use the proposed 4-3-3-1-1 formation.
- Sonata Effects before random high stats match.
- For most DPS characters, focus on Critical Rate, Critical Damage and Attack.
- Only upgrade Echoes with good main stats and good substats.
- As your Data Bank level increases, replace the weaker Echoes.
Knowing the Echo system is the key to maximizing your Resonators, making every fight easier and preparing your account for the most challenging endgame tasks.
