Exploring new locations in Wuthering Waves is essential for progressing through the story and collecting valuable resources. Certain map locations are unlocked naturally, whereas some require completing specific quests or exploration objectives to access.

Main Story Progression

You mainly unlock big areas by progressing through the main story. Some key locations are tied to specific chapters and quests, so as you complete the necessary missions, the world you can access will slowly open up to you.

Regional Quests

Some of the smaller zones and sub-zones require you to complete a quest chain before they will be unlocked. If you stumble upon a location that looks closed or unavailable, check your active quests and story objectives nearby. Some areas can only be fully explored after you’ve completed their related missions.

Resonance Beacon Activation

When you enter a new area, turn on Resonance Beacons and Resonance Nexuses around you. These locations unlock parts of the map and give you fast travel points, making it a lot easier to explore newly unlocked areas.

Follow the Exploration Goals

Some places will grow slowly as you do exploration activities, or permanent events. Pay attention to regional objectives and event requirements when an area seems to be unavailable. As you complete the required tasks, more parts of the map will be unlocked step-by-step.

Check for Underground Areas

Some locations are not visible from the surface. There are underground sections and caves and tunnels and in some areas there are separate levels for the inside. If your goal is below you, see if you can find nearby entrances or check your map for underground areas if there are any.

Tap the Map for Unexplored Regions

Unlock a region, then use the map to locate Resonance Beacons, quests, collectibles, and other points of interest. Map unlocking does not mean full exploration, since progress is tracked in different regions and sub-areas.

Continue Exploring Once An Area Is Unlocked

Opening up a new area is only the first step. Explore the hidden paths, complete the local quests, collect supply chests, and use the new fast travel points to make the most of the newly opened area. New regions usually include character material, Echoes, Astrites and other useful rewards.
