Relics are one of the most important factors in a character’s performance in Honkai: Star Rail. Having the correct Relic set and stats can greatly improve your damage, survivability or support. However, selecting Relics isn’t purely about acquiring the pieces with the highest numbers. You have to match them to your character’s role and scaling.

Understand Your Character

Think about what your character actually needs before choosing Relics. Generally, Main DPS characters will prefer offensive stats, and Supports may prefer Speed, Energy Regeneration or other utility stats. Look at your character's abilities and scaling before deciding on stats to prioritize. Some characters will need to take HP, DEF, Break Effect or other specialized stats instead of standard ATK-focused builds.

Pick the Right Relic Set

Relic sets grant bonuses for wearing multiple pieces from the same set. Pick an ensemble that directly benefits your character’s core mechanics. Don’t default to a well-known set because it’s deemed strong. The right set can vary based on your character, team composition, and playstyle.

Focus on the Main Stats

Relics are all about the main stats. DPS characters often want CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK%, and appropriate DMG bonuses. Supports can choose Speed, HP%, DEF% or any other good stat. Always check what your character is scaling with before upgrading a Relic. The wrong main stat can’t be compensated by perfect substats.

Don’t throw away every Relic that doesn’t have perfect substats. A Relic with some useful stats can be more than enough to clear most content.

However, relic farming can be pretty costly in terms of Trailblaze Power. Early on in your account’s progression, prioritize character levels, Light Cones, and important Traces over dumping tons of resources into chasing perfect Relics. Use temporary Relics with decent stats until your characters are developed otherwise.
